More than 5,000 years ago, the world's first system of holistic medicine was established in India. Called ayurveda, which literally means the "science of life", this mother of all healing systems is based on spiritual principles, and includes natural treatments to establish the correct balance between the mind, body, and consciousness. On Ayurveda, listeners join Dr. Vasant Lad (founder of America's first ayurvedic institute) to explore this ancient mind/body art. From choosing the right diet and food combinations for your type -- to fascinating cosmic laws about individual constitutions and the three doshas that govern wellness -- to principles for attaining enlightenment through perfect health -- here is the only complete audio curriculum on ayurveda.
According to a recent Harvard Medical School study, one in three Americans has sought out and used alternative health treatments. Now the world's oldest system for holistic healing is available to Western seekers, with Ayurveda.

With almost 500,000 copies of his books in print in the US, his work has been translated into more than 20 languages.
I listened to this audiobook with Dr. Vasant Lad’s narration and I loved it. I’ve been studying Ayurveda for a while and I found this book to be a little introductory but quite comprehensive. Listening to this audiobook felt like sitting in one of Dr. Lad’s workshop at The Ayurvedic Institute in New Mexico.
Dr Vasant Lad is a renowned expert in Ayurveda (Especially, NAADI PARIKSHAN).
The only problem with this audiobook is that Dr Lad speaks at a very slow pace. You have to listen to it at 1.5X.
But the content is awesome. You get to know a great detail about our Body and how Ayurveda helps you to treat yourself.
A must-read for everyone, whoever is interested in common well being and good health.
PS: don't miss watching some of his awesome videos on Youtube. Just search for Dr Vasant Laad. Especially his lectures and seminars on Naadi parikshan are awesome.
Not many details in this 5-hours lecture on Ayurveda, but that was not a problem since I have a paperback copy of Vasant Lad's ayurvedic treaty. I could refer to it whenever he mentioned an interesting notion.
On the whole this is a wise and patient approach to Ayurveda, if a little old-fashioned.
First of all, that guy’s voice (I used an audio version) was super duper relaxing. It was informative and the first book on Ayurveda I’ve ever picked up... so I also have nothing else to compare it to. But I do plan on delving more into this topic. :)
