Features Suitable for independent learners and students on taught courses, Intermediate Dutch , together with its sister volume Basic Dutch , forms a structured course in the essentials of Dutch grammar.
I absolutely loved working on this book! The Basic Dutch grammar made me understand the workings of the language, but it was this book which helped me reach a more nuanced understanding of Dutch syntax and it shed light on hard things which would have otherwise taken ages for me to grasp (e.g word order). I can say that I definitely reached a higher level in Dutch comprehension with the aid of this book - I apparently understand much more spoken Dutch than I did when I started working on this book because I grew much more used to the logic of this formidable language. I fell so much in love with this grammar series from Routledge that I am planning on studying the German and Russian ones next!
I have been gradually progressing through this book in my spare time this year; I have paired this with a dictionary, and some exploration, of newspaper websites from the Netherlands. This is a bit of a work in progress "attempt" to master Dutch. The entire course of this will likely take several years. It is among a set of sixteen or so languages, I intend to cover for next year. This is because in part certain things fell through this year, due to some unfortunate issues. I stopped language wise at about three + an incomplete read through some Greek textbooks, and also some Japanese textbooks. I guess I might have a month while resting in January to complete these- including the Thai + Vietnamese + Russian + Korean; these I have casually skimmed through.
