The 3:15 bell used to mean the end of class. Now, it means the end of everything . The Purple War is raging outside the protective walls of Aegis Academy. The infected, murderous Virulents are getting more aggressive on the inside. With enemies all around, Virtue finds herself trapped in her dorm with new friends, former rivals, her faithful service dog Beynac, and her very first boyfriend. Led by the clever and charismatic Comus and with the Apocalypchix as his personal security detail, the so-called “Remainders” set out to create a whole new society. But how perfect can a new society be when it’s built on the old foundations of jealousy, falsehood, and fear? For Virtue and her fellow survivors, it’s “us against the world.” And the world is winning.

This book was as entertaining as the last, and I rather enjoyed it. We got to see more relationships between the characters, and we watched as they shifted, changed, and grew. I really liked getting to know Kamis and seeing his perspective on things. I did guess that it was him kind of sabotaging his own plans behind the scenes, but it makes sense. People come together when chaos is afoot, and stagnancy would be the last thing a community wants in the middle of an apocalypse. It was cool to see, and I did enjoy the nuance on what he was doing and on different things going on in the story. It was insightful and got you thinking about a lot more than if the infected are, in fact, people.
