I wanted this book to be more than it was, which was really a summary of epidemiological data. I found it odd how Torrey managed to virtually ignore the diathesis stress theory even when it could have shed light on multiple findings discussed in the text. I also found Torrey's relentless use of the term "schizophrenic" to be jarring. By now this book is over 30 years old, which makes a lot of the content dated and therefore it may be unfair to critique it. I'm still glad I read it given the unique scope and perspective.
