I can fully appreciate why this particular work would no longer be popular amongst many today, and I, for the most part, would agree with them.

However, Robert E. Lee & The Southern Confederacy is still a worthwhile read, especially for someone like me who lives on the other side of the world from the US. This historical work assists the reader in better understanding both the man Lee and the American Civil War in general. It also aids in helping one grasp the USA of modern times.
