Two hundred full-color and sepia illustrations and an informative text document the development and refinement of the postcard, with especial attention to the turn of the century, and instruct hobbyists in all aspects of collecting and grading.
Focused mostly on Great Britain and Europe, with the US mentioned occasionally, this book provides a survey history of postcards from the first postal stationery to the picture postcard. I wish it had a straight chronology, but the essay-style in which it's written is probably fine for a casual reader.
The book was published in 1992, seven years before the first cell phone camera. Quite a lot has changed since then. I wish there was a book that told the American side of the story and continued into the current decade. If you can recommend one, I'd appreciate it.
