Thought provoking and breezy, with some incredible photography. It looks like some recent reproductions may not be at the same level of quality; I was very impressed with the 1965 edition.

I wish I could find a copy to buy and keep for myself forever but this book is so difficult to find (and so expensive if found).

This is an exceptionally scholarly and highly esoteric work on the anthropology and holistic design mentality of 19-20th century Japan. Especially valuable as a visual resource—the text may or may not be valuable or relevant to many readers. Recommended for architects, experience designers, linguists, anthropologists.
