A late Cold War thriller from Duncan Kyle, also published under the name of James Meldrum, that sees a former Israeli commando going rogue in an attempt to bring a fugitive war criminal to justice. The action moves from a botched hijack in Rome to London, and then on to the endgame in a deserted cottage out in the sticks in Yorkshire. The story moves along at a real lick and the body count is quite high as the protagonist leaves a trail of mayhem in his wake. However, it only succeeds sporadically. The lead character is too driven, too much of an extremist or obsessive to engage the sympathy of the reader. What's more, the ending isn't at all satisfactory, leaving far too many loose ends and there is no real sense of narrative closure.
