If you have an anxiety disorder or experience anxiety symptoms that interfere with your day-to-day life, you can benefit from learning four simple skills that therapists use with their clients. These easy-to-learn skills are at the heart of dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), a cutting-edge therapeutic approach that can help you better manage the panic attacks, worries, and fears that limit your life and keep you feeling stuck. This book will help you learn these four powerful skills: ● Mindfulness helps you connect with the present moment and notice passing thoughts and feelings without being ruled by them. ● Acceptance skills foster self-compassion and a nonjudgmental stance toward your emotions and worries. ● Interpersonal effectiveness skills help you assert your needs in order to build more fulfilling relationships with others. ● Emotion regulation skills help you manage anxiety and fear before they get out of control. In The Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills Workbook for Anxiety, you'll learn how to use each of these skills to manage your anxiety, worry, and stress. This book will help you overcome your anxiety and move forward in your life.
I found this book useful and informative, especially about the nature of anxiety (and similar phenomena like stress), its meaning and symptoms. It describes lots of exercises and practical approaches one can take advantage of, as well as skills that one should patiently learn and develope. However, the book didn't give me the motivation to do all of that, it was for me just a cold and formal acquisition of information and techniques -very valid, interesting and based on hard work and on-the-field observations, but still lacking of those motivational and somehow revealing features that, in my opinion, should be a must for psychology books. Since it is a workbook, it could be kind of "justified" for the absence of these characteristics. Moreover, I found it repetitive regarding some concepts, that one can find written over and over again across each chapter. Recommended if one wants to acquire some knowledge about DBT and mindfulness skills, to learn how to deal with modern mental illnesses of different degree of severity. But probably there is something better out there; I accept indications about this.
The pictures and charts are hard to see on the kindle but I found the book really helpful. And so did a lot of my friends, as I posted a lot from it onto FaceBook.
I'm a psychologist and I have a few clients who were having difficulty applying DBT to their anxiety based disorders. I think this workbook would be a great addition to work with a therapist or as a stand alone text outside of therapy.
This book is great as an intro into managing anxiety. If you’re new to this realm or needing a refresher of the basics, this is perfect. If you’re looking for depth, this might not be the best book for you.
I thought this book was a fantastic use in counseling. Really enjoyed the explanation of DBT and how to utilize it with clients. Had great worksheet to help the clients understand what we were doing and why.
I found it dumb. They over-explain everything, the solutions are over-simplified. Boring. The same book condensed in 30 pages would have been better. I've read other DBT books which are more stimulating.
This was a great workbook! All of the concepts are laid out in a clean and concise manner so any layman would be able to follow along. The exercises are not too daunting but also not too simple. They make you think and put effort into it. I will definitely be keeping my copy of this workbook for future reference. I would also definitely recommend this workbook to anyone with any sort of severe anxiety issues (it covers all from social, OCD, PTSD, BPD, etc). Just a great book!
