Civil rights leaders opposed the movement on the premise that it had the potential to dilute the census count of traditional minority groups. Fairly informative as a dry history, however it reads as a meandering and lost "study". Feels very much like the author lost or disproved her desire to chronicle a movement early on, and instead ended up writing a play by play of a handful of individuals with very little chronological narrative or continuity.
