As a host of monsters--including werewolves, vampires, zombies, and more--reawakens to once again torment the world, only one man, an American gangster, stands between humankind and the forces of darkness. Original.
This is a YA novel based on the classic Universal Monsters franchise. There's a generous selection of vampires, werewolves, zombies, and assorted other monsters, but no really likeable characters, human or otherwise. It was okay, but not too memorable. I was never moved to get the sequel, The Devil's Night.
Several of the monsters from the Universal horror movies (Dracula. Dracula's Daughter, the Frankenstein monster, Bride of Frankenstein and a third generation Werewolf of London, plus a brief cameo by Lawrence (The Wolf Man) Talbot, should make for an exciting read and, though this book was enjoyable, I found it to be uneven. I think the main problem is that there are no likable characters. Besides the monsters, the characters are basically criminals and evil schemers. But it's still worth a read if you like the classic monsters.
