Hole House

Guy and Mae don’t know each other, don't like each other, and don't want to be around each other. But they just became unwitting co-owners of an abandoned mansion in the middle of nowhere. Ok firstly, I received this as an ARC from the Author, because well frankly he rocks.
Secondly, I finished this in HOURS because I couldn't put it down!! I'm dying to see what happens next!!! (DM don't make us wait too long!!)
Mae and Guy's characters were fantastic! Truth be told, I REALLY REALLY wanna throw things in the hole! I don't want to give too much away but def the best house flip story you'll find LOL.
Another fantastic read, another fantastic world. This is the third world I've walked through with the author and it's just as great as the last two. Def 1000% one of today's most underrated authors around! Def worth buying, reading, borrowing, building an entire weird shrine around.. whatever tickles your fancy!

Fantastic
The voice its written in is so unique and captivating. I can't wait for the next installment! Even when I thought I knew where the story was going it managed to twist and surprise me.

Pretty good! (3.5)
Overall, I liked the story and the premise, it was interesting enough to keep me going and the writing flowed well and didn't feel clunky. The author is great with humor and I enjoyed his style (for the most part).
My problems (spoilers)
I think the writer just got really lazy at multiple points throughout and just had things happen because the writer can write anything, right?
Mae - I found her unlikable from the start. It's also her fault twice that this whole situation occurred and she's arrogant. There's nothing about her presented that would explain why she felt the need to push this house to be fixed in the first place and she didn't have enough money to make the demands she was making as an 'investor'. I didn't find it believable that a seasoned house flipper would just bow to her whims and again, there was nothing that was presented about her to explain why she wanted to fix up this - clearly unsalvagable dump. And then it just skips out on explaining how it was funded by just saying credit card debt. Were these the plot holes the cover mentioned? Mae never really gets better as a character, always thinking she's right when there's zero evidence she knows anything about flipping or fixing or even basic homeowner repairing a house and she always just blindly runs into things or makes stupid stubborn decisions with zero logic or thought behind it (so the story could happen I guess). She never has a plan and most of their survival is dumb luck so honestly, I was rooting for her to get tossed in the hole. Guy isn't the perfect character but he mostly made more sense throughout until he didn't because 'reasons' I suppose.
At the end, the house should have been demolished. Any house built in America that gets heaved up and dropped 1, 2, 3 and 5 feet in the air repeatedly - especially one that's almost 140 years old - would be rubble so the whole last wrap up chapters are just bull crap. Also, Guy repeatedly says he's ruined if they don't sell and he just tells Luther to go ahead and build? With what money? It really spoiled the story and felt like a lazy thoughtless ending.
Those were my biggest gripes but I still liked the idea overall

After reading A Hundred Billion Ghosts and its sequel, naturally I had to read everything else the author currently has!
Hole House had a lot of funny moments with Guy and Mae, and I enjoyed reading about their developing relationship through renovating a very peculiar house. Some passages I ended up skimming because they were a little too slow for me but I did enjoy the story. I have the sequel on preorder now and can't wait to read that one!

5* because I don't want you to even hesitate at grabbing this book. A wonderfully unique story line filled with engaging, lovable characters with an edge of the seat finale. Just do it!!

Really enjoyed this, it's a crime it's not more well known. It's very funny and really well written, can't wait to read the sequel.

This was so much fun. I laughed and I cringed. D.M. Sinclair must be slightly off center and for that I rejoice. I have read his previous books and enjoyed them all. An author that makes me lose control and guffaw with abandon is a rarity. I can't wait to see what he comes up with next.
