Although I’m Baptist, a true Christian is still a Christian no matter the denomination, and this book encouraged me to draw closer to God. Many enlightening thoughts here.
I have mixed thoughts about this book. It is a semi-coherent series of biographical stories about Smith Wigglesworth. This is the first I have read anything about the man, who is treated as a saint by Pentecostals and other Charismatic Christians. The book itself (i.e., not the content or the person described) was rather poor. It read as if I was having a tea break with the author who was recounting stories of Wigglesworth as they came to his head. This did mean (thankfully that the book was very easy and pleasant to read.
The content was odd in that the author kept reminding the reader that Smith Wigglesworth didn’t believe he deserved any credit or praise (and neither did any other minister) but wanted all the praise to go to Jesus. Yet, the book was written almost as a form of hero worship for Smith. So, ultimately, I must give the book a low rating, as the book itself is not very good. Note again, that this does not mean that I have any problem with Smith Wigglesworth. In fact, I would love to read a good book about this very interesting man.
I vacillated between giving this book 3 or 4-stars, but erred on the side of grace. It was an encouraging book to me in most ways and one that challenges a Christian to a closer walk with our Lord. The writing itself is a bit simple, but it's basically a man telling of his friendship and association with Smith Wigglesworth, who appeared to live a very godly life, separated from worldly pursuits and totally sold out to service to God. I am not a Charismatic Christian and don't go along with all of their beliefs, but we do share in the most important tenet - that of repentance of sin and salvation through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, among other things. It's a book that can encourage a reader to live a life more dedicated to God.
This is a very good book Truly a Godly man filled with the Holy Spirit. He was fearless in the face of the most evil there is. And his energy to do all he did could have only come from God. If you are a new Christian or have been a Christian all your life you will enjoy reading about this amazing man. And if you are not a Christian, you will be blessed by reading this.
This book is extremely inspirational - I think it specifically applies to the place that we are in right now. It focuses on the need for the body of Christ to be walking in the power of the Holy Spirit. How much more effective we would be, if we were being led in our every day lives by the word of God.
This very readable book, clearly tells the story of this simple man who believed the Bible implicitly, read it alone, and so lead thousands to Christ, healed many sick, also setting free those oppressed by satan. An inspiring read, with verified healings and miracles. The author was a close friend of Smith's and often in his home. Amazing stuff.
This was an easy read. And, quite frankly, impossible to put down. This servant of the Lord lived an incredible life and you will be inspired by his shear determination and dedication to saving souls and sharing the truth with all those willing to hear his message.
Smith wigglesworth was a man who took God at His Word and who gave God’s Word the utmost priority. God used him to do extraordinary things. He wasn’t educated according to the world’s standards, but he did mighty things for the Kingdom of God. This is a powerful biography of a man of humble origins but totally surrendered to a Mighty God.
Smith Wigglesworth was an example of a life of faith and obedience. This book will inspire and encourage you to obey the leading of the Lord and do the impossible. I highly recommend this book for all especially ministers of the gospel.
Need to read it again. What an awesome God we have and it is apparent through the ministering of Smith Wigglesworth. I say to get closer to our God and Lord and Saviour we should really delve regularly in the Bible, but this book demonstrates God's power. Read it and be amazed.
This book is the short biography of Smith Wigglesworth. Rather than a book written by a researcher, this is a tribute written by a friend who knew him and experienced many of the miracles attributed to this man's close association with the Spirit of God.
OK book, I love Smith Wigglesworth but this made him out to be practically perfect. I do appreciate the family association with him and many of the stories but a bit over the top.
This book blessed me. What an example Wigglesworth is to all believers! Reading this has awakened a new desire in me to pursue God, to know His word, and to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
This is the book that put me back on the road to a faith multiplied. I highly recommend it. I will read it again and again to remind me of the power of the Holy Spirit.
This confirms by conviction to live the Word, as it is the only way to truly live! I would recommend the book to anyone who wishes to live a holy and fruitful life.
Looking forward to something deeper. I found book to be like diary pages with a sprinkling of Bible versus to add justification to Smith Wigglesworth events.
