Young does a great job explaining the linguistic reasons for many grammar analyses unique to Koine Greek. I didn't use this book in school, but wanted a review of the basics after spending years just reading/translating. As someone who learned Classical Greek coming from Latinate models (eg, emphasizing 'tense' more than 'aspect'), this book really helped to separate my perception of Greek grammar from Latin. It makes sense, is easy to follow, and gives practice exercises using New Testament texts.

Like any grammar textbook, the writing is abysmal. It reads like an auto repair manual but with a little less pizzazz! It's not a bad grammar to consult when exegeting a passage or when one needs help in recalling some finer points of grammatical exegesis in the Greek NT. I'd recommend using it as a quick reference, but consult Daniel Wallace's if you have more time over Dr. Young's book; or consult A.T. Robertson which is even better. He has a few cryptic areas and a few that aren't as well argued or presented as Wallace's. Overall, it's an OK grammar that is worth consulting for a quick reference or if one doesn't have Wallace or Robertson at hand.

Really dense writing style, but I found it very helpful. Will return to it for reference, especially as I exegete passages of the New Testament for sermon preparation and exegetical research papers. The last chapter on structural analysis was the most helpful of the whole book.

Personally, I prefer this to Wallace’s Intermediate Grammar for a read-through, though Wallace is much more thorough as a reference Grammar.

A helpful handbook on intermediate Greek syntax. Comparable to Wallace's abridged volume, though with less organization and more exemplars. The physical construction of the volume leaves much to be desired, however. The binding is glue-backed, the covers creak when they're opened, and paste-down lining came already partially broken.

Helpful to go over Greek grammar concepts.
Wallace is probably more useful if a choice had to be made.
