Kristin Dixon's Waiting on Forever is is a fun, yet emotional read about single-mom Magnolia. The book follows Magnolia, or Maggie, as she navigates finalizing her divorce and the prospect of dating Jensen, a local park ranger who isn't shy about his romantic interest.
The story was quick and easy to read. I enjoyed the interactions between Magnolia and Jensen. I would have loved to seen the story unfold from his perspective as well, but it's fine that we don't. Magnolia is wonderfully relatable with her bumbling ways when she feels flustered and the insecurities she feels after having dealt with a terrible ex for so long. Jensen seems almost too perfect as he is portrayed as an almost endlessly patient and understanding human being, however, because Magnolia's ex was so awful you really want him to be everything for her and you don't really care if it's not necessarily realistic, though I would like to think people like Jensen do exist in real life.
The side characters were good and I loved the small town vibe from all the descriptions of the people and place. I would have loved more from this story though. If it is meant to be a nice, quick read it definitely accomplishes that, but I would have loved for just a bit more from story, especially more about Jensen and what his life was like most of the time.
Overall, it was a good book, but I probably wouldn't read it again. I recommend this book to readers of quick, clean romance stories.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
