WOW. MIND BLOWING ACTION

I love the simple cover by Michelle Crocker.

Forgetting Jane by C J Warrant starts out with one of my worst nightmares…being buried alive…and I hold my breath until…

WOW, what an opening scene for a fantastic novel.

YAY, two mysteries in one. Who buried Jane Doe and who is she? She has amnesia and I cannot imagine the terror as she struggles to tell the difference between the real and the unreal. I too am wondering what is going on. Who is the girl in the yellow dress?

The sick son of a bitch stalking her is determined to finish what he started. Who is he? Why is he so bold?

Small town cop, Elias McAvoy, knew HIS visit to Jane was a message. The stalker must be local. Imagine knowing it’s someone you live with, someone you talk to day in and day out. I was scared for her at every turn…every time a chapter started, her hospital door opened, her eyes opened…a constant state of suspense at a steady pace created a feeling of terror.

Elias and Jane are so hurt and damaged, lost. Would they be drawn together? Could they heal each other’s wounds…if given the chance? Finally, he did something to…maybe…get through to her. Or is she just crazy?

I was so waiting for Caroline to SHUT THE HELL up.

Harold…is he just misunderstood and harmless? I think he has an important part to play.

I have two very strong suspects…among the many. Okay, I can rule him out, but he was too obvious anyway. Another suspect is proven innocent. Who is it? Every time I “turn the page”, I expect him to jump out at me…again! My first thought was right, but C J Warrant sure had me going. Yes, no, yes, no.

Suspense…WOW…off the charts from the beginning to the end. This adult romantic paranormal suspense novel leaves me “panting” for more. If you like fast paced nonstop suspense causing the hair to rise on the back of your neck and shivers to run up and down your spine, you MUST READ Forgetting Jane by C J Warrant.

I received a copy of Forgetting Jane by C J Warrant in return for an honest review.

This was my first book from this author and such a great introduction for me to a new author. This book had lots of action and kept me on the edge of my seat. I loved it! I want to read more from this author! A little ghost, romance and serial killer action is this book all rolled into one incredible ride. I loved it all! We have a lot to figure out in this book from the beginning as a reader and I loved that about it as well. * I received this book from the author and this is my honest review*

I love romantic suspense/thrillers. It had been a while since I read one that was this intense. I can’t recall ever reading one where the main focus was a male. I loved that change. Perhaps because Elias was such a wonderful character. He is small town cop with a haunted past, a guarded but good heart. The supporting cast was fantastic! Magda was my favorite aside from Elias.

The plot was fast and gripping. I was totally wrong about who did it, as well as other aspects that caught me by surprise. The details were just enough to give a good feel of the setting and people without getting in the way of what needed to be a crisp narrative.

I listened to this on audiobook, so I also wanted to mention that the narrator did a lovely job. He read with an intensity that fit the story perfectly.

The romantic thread wasn’t overpowering so this should be a good fit for fans of thrillers as well as romance.

(RabidReads.com)4 stars for Story, 3.5 Stars for Narration. Imagine waking up in your own grave, sans the casket. That’s the premise of this ghost/serial killer/romance story. A lot going on isn’t it? I promise you, it all fits together nicely, and I enjoyed my time with this listen.

Jane, as in Jane Doe, doesn’t remember the circumstances of why she is in the grave. For that matter, she doesn’t remember her past or who she is. Hence the Jane Doe moniker. She has been beaten within an inch of her life (literally) and left for dead in a shallow grave. Elias is the new chief of police in town and he has a lot to prove due to some less than stellar instances in his background. These two are brought together under the worse of circumstances, but still manage to find an attraction to each other.

This was a pure romantic suspense story, yes, but it’s also a ghost story. Not everyone sees them though. Jane started seeing a little girl in a yellow dress almost as soon as she claws herself out of the grave. Only a couple of people see the little girl as well. It’s up to Jane to figure out what the young girl is trying to tell her, because the other main witness spends his time drinking to get rid of the sight. But that’s not the only ghost in this story.

To me, Elias has the bigger role to play in this story, and that’s because Jane is unconscious for several chapters at the beginning and then spends quite a bit of the time in bed. Elias has to work on the case and spend time at the police department, in addition to sitting by Jane’s hospital bed. And he does sit by her bed quite a bit. When the killer starts trying to kill Jane again, he makes the decision to hide her away from the hospital. Magda, an elderly nurse at the hospital, is another major character. She’s almost a surrogate mother to Elias and she becomes a fierce protector of Jane as she too goes into hiding to take care of Jane. Jane has no memories, so she has no past to tell about. She’s understandably scared to death and it takes awhile in the book for her to become strong enough to become a competent heroine of this book. Still, I did like her character, as well as Magda and Elias. We also get some of the killer’s prospective, not a lot, but some. And what we get is pretty chilling, so the villain was suitably scary for a suspense story. And of course, the author kept the whodunnit part secret, although I was right about my suspicions.

Narration? Through trial and error, I now listen to my books on 1.25x instead of 1. With this book, I had to go back to 1 because the narrator, Griffin Murphy, speaks a bit too fast for me. Since I am using a speed that Audible considers 1, I guess that’s not a valid complaint. Just throwing that out there for you. Other than that, I think the narrator did a decent job of it. My favorite voice was for Magda. He nailed her elderly voice with just the right amount of quavering. You knew immediately who was speaking, so that part was good. The narration, while not great, was still adequate and I would rate it 3.5/5 stars.

I do recommend this book to adult readers that like serial killer books, romantic suspense, and mysteries. Adult, due to sexual situations and extreme violence. The ghost aspect, while not a huge part of the plot, is important as well, and I thought it added to the story in a good way. Good story!

I couldn’t put this book down. It was that good. I enjoy a good murder mystery from time to time.

Can you imagine being “Jane”? She was so violently attacked that she didn’t remember the crime or even who she was. The Chief Elias was determined to find the person that did this. What neither he or “Jane” planned for was to fall in love. Love finds you at the strangest of times.

I thought at one point in the book I knew who the killer was. I’m glad to say I was wrong and didn’t see it coming. That makes for a great book. I would love to see a second book on this to see how “Jane” (her real name is revealed in the book but I don’t want to give away a spoiler) and Elias are doing afterwards.

Forgetting Jane is a gripping mystery/thriller that had me on the edge of my seat!
Reading books like this are a guilty pleasure for me. When I read these I always try to figure out the "villain" or bad guy before it's actually revealed to us.
With this one, I had it figured out, but then was second guessing myself when it's mentioned just how far back the crimes went.
CJ Warrant threw in a twist that I never would've expected at the end.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and hope to see more like this from this author.

Jane Doe. No one knows her name, no one knows where she came from, no one knows how she came to be tortured and buried alive by the lake.

Elias McAvoy. The chief of police of a small town with secrets of his own.

Jane is haunted by ghosts and Elias by the ghosts of his past. Will Elias and Jane be able to break through her amnesia and the lack of clues to find her abductor before he kills again?

Forgetting Jane is a novel filled with tension and suspense. There's danger and intrigue and paranormal elements that might surprise you. The author leads the reader down a path filled with twists and turns as small town cop, Elias McAvoy searches for the one who brutally beat and buried Jane Doe alive. Through the course of the investigation, a growing attraction between Elias and Jane develops. Neither are sure it's a good thing, but neither seem to be able to fight it. With a killer on the loose, a young girl in a yellow sundress, and various paranormal happenings, nothing is as it seems.

My favorite moment was discovering I had guessed part of the killer correctly and that's all I'm saying about that! :)

CJ Warrant is an amazing author!!! Her books of love, mystery and suspense are written to where she keeps you on the edge of your seat. Just when you think that you have figured out where she is taking a story -- she puts in a twist and catches you by surprise.

The small town of Beaver Creek, Wisconsin is the setting where the story takes place. It starts with two hunters and their dog finding a woman who has been beaten and buried - but miraculously she is still alive. Chief Elias McAvoy - a recovering alcoholic -- tries to find out who's behind the attempted murder. Jane Doe -- the unidentified woman -- is in a coma and when she wakes up she suffers from amnesia. No one knows who she is or exactly what happened to her. I don't write spoilers -- but, believe me, this book will catch your interest and the suspense will hold you so tight that you will NOT be able to stop reading until you reach the end and discover all the secrets disclosed in the book.

I was given a copy of this book for an honest review.

Jane is found, badly beaten and close to death, She is rushed to the hospital and Cop Elias is very determine to find what happened to her and keep her safe.Jane has memory loss and is in danger still with her attacker on the loose. She keeps on talking about the girl in the yellow dress a ghost Elias finds out. When more people and himself see her, he has to accept it. Jane and Elias fall in love but if it can hold and if they manage to keep Jane safe? or do they need help? buy the book and find out yourself, I promise it is worth it.
Great book, nice pace, characters are well worked out, real thrill, I figured out who the killer was, but wasn't sure till the last part of the book, really good!!! I received and ARC in exchange of my honest review.

Wow!! Wow!! and Wow!!
Amazing book.

Jane Doe. By this character you made me remind one TV series Blindspot's character that goes by the same name in that and has the same problem of Amnesia.

The start of the book is thwarting and compelling and of-course recovering from that one is not easy.
I loved it!!! I loved it!!! And I loved it!!! More than that will be a spoiler!!!

Jane Doe was left for dead and Elias McAvoy is trying to figure out who did it. This was an interesting read. The characters were well developed and I enjoyed the mystery. At times the dialogue was a little clunky and there were a lot of references to breathing - characters taking a breath etc over and over, but overall it was a good story.

Jane has had everything stripped from her , she survived a serial killer and can't remember what happened . To top it off she is also being haunted by a little girl in a yellow dress. Elias MacAvoy the chief of police is promising to keep her safe but he is fighting his own demons from a past that has him vowing to protect Jane at any cost . Will they survive the serial killer and will they be able to heal from a past that haunted them .
The characters in this story are very well written . Jane has been through so much she is strong stronger then she realizes . She is also a survivor who will do anything to help find the man who is killing women. Elias well he is a good guy but he is fighting demons of his past . He is trying to redeem himself for a past . He has a heart of gold and watching him with Jane it is like this is where he is going to redeem himself and maybe put the past behind him,. Magda is my favourite character . She is the feisty grandmother figure who fusses over everyone like a mother hen . But don't you dare cross her cause she will put you in your place fast and hard. These are wonderful characters that are complex and well written .
I haven't read a good romantic thriller in a long time and when I saw this one I grabbed it . I really like the writing style of this author who is new to me by the way. The characters are well written and you want to hug them and tell them everything will be ok. The romantic part of this book doesn't overpower the whole story moves fast and you will be on the edge of your seat most of the time . I truly enjoyed this story and the characters . This is one of those stories that will have you up all night reading . So check it out if you want a good read that will have you reading all night.

Terrific Story & Listen🎧 Thrilling & Suspenseful!
Forgetting Jane
By: CJ Warrant
Narrated by: Griffin Murphy

I enjoyed this book immensely, the story is well written and well told, it grabbed my attention right from the start and captivated it the entire time. CJ Warrant is a gifted author with an imaginative mind, this story is interesting and original, I liked how she found the perfect balance of several genres, romance, mystery, crime drama, thrilling suspense with a twist of paranormal twist. The characters are complex and nicely developed, they are realistic, easy to relate to and connect with. Jane Doe was found in a makeshift grave that she semi-dug herself out of, she was a victim of a brutal crime and the head injury left her with amnesia. She has no idea of who she is or what happened to her. The small town’s Chief of Police Elias McAvoy handles the case and takes a personal interest in Jane. Jane remembers odd things from the scene, then starts to have nightmares and see visions. As the case evolves Chief McAvoy starts to uncover bits and pieces telling him the killer may be near and he is not done killing. This story is cleverly plotted, the author keeps you on your toes, has you wondering who the killer was and what is going to happen next. CJ Warrant, thank you for another great story.

🎧📚🎧 And for the fabulous narration, Griffin Murphy is a talented narrator and voice artist. He did a great job bringing the characters and their story to life. He set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the character’s emotions and projected them into his performance. He is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for the great listen🎧

“Sweet Lord of all the amazing things what in the world this story was? Wow! Wow! And wow again! Guys, I was hooked up right after finished the prologue!!! That’s insane. Talking about angsty stories with lots of tension and this one. I ripped my heart every time Elias suffered on the inside. Who it was possible for someone to serve after so much? I’m amazed! I’m a stronger believer that everything happens for a reason and FJ was proof of that. All the hurt and pain can heal and the past is just that. I know it’s so uncommon when someone praise strong MC because that’s expected a MUST but in this case I’m definitely gonna praise Elias’s endurance and protectiveness since that very first promise. Poor ‘Jane’ what happened to her was utterly scary and unfair. Strength have different meanings and Jane proved to be a survivor and a fighter. Raw emotions always felt different and this time I was on the edge. I couldn’t sleep until the end and it was an incredible ride. Again it broke my heart and increase my anxiety but slowly put the pieces of my heart back together. If you love Criminal Mind as much I do you’ll fall in love with this story. Told in different POVs to have various perspectives! I don’t want to give details but Jane you rocked! Back to Elias and Jane’s love story let’s just say that love can be a cure too.”

I received an Advanced Reader Copy and am voluntarily reviewing it. This book is dark. Readers are able to connect with Jane Doe. You seriously feel her trauma. The descriptions put you in the room looking at what the characters are looking at and smelling what they smell. It does take a minute to develop. This story will definitely hold on to you. You will become invested and be forced to let it play out.

Jane Doe was found with amnesia hence the name. Elias McAvoy, new chief of police. Elias is very protective of the victim and drawn to her. If you have read this author’s books before, you know there is a mystical theme throughout. This books goes in deep. With characters seeing ghosts and getting possessed by spirits. The characters are great and you are guessing until the killer is revealed.

If you love a good mystery with some ghosts scattered in, this book is for you. It’s a tough topic. A serial killer that is obsessed with the one who was able to get away.

Prologue DNF

I couldn't get through the prologue due to the typos. I'm not sure if this book was translated or if the editor/proofreader didn't care, but after seven full sentences that made no sense, just in the first "chapter", I gave up. I'm not sure if other reviewers were paid to leave five stars or if they just don't care about grammar/wording/punctuation, but I couldn't do it. It's hard to get "immersed in the story" when the terrible English skills are so distracting. Highly disappointed considering this is from an "award winning" author.

Ohhhhh…this one sounded so good, had to get it. I wasn’t disappointed. Why was Jane buried?? What did she do to land on a serial killers list?? Between a frustrated chief and a in your face nurse; this story will keep you on your toes wondering who could do these vicious things. With divine intervention and decades of old photos; Chief Elias just might be able to solve this before more ladies die. With both working to solve this, they also heal each other.

Forgetting Jane is a fast paced thriller. Elias is called on the case of a Jane Doe who survived a brutal beating and left for dead. The emotions of Jane Doe and Elias are intense and realistic as the story enfolds. Some romance and Magda's compassion lighten the dark, insane world of a serial killer. The mystical element added a unique element to the race to uncover the truth about Elias' discoveries. Be warned once you start you won't be able to put this down.

orgetting Jane
By CJ Warrant
4 ⭐️

This is a dark romantic suspense with some paranormal pizzazz thrown in. It follows the victim of a horrific crime - she’s found half buried, left for dead, freezing after she clawed her way out of her grave - and the police chief in a sleepy WI lake town. I had a good time with this book. It held my attention well, especially for an eyeball read. I enjoyed Elias’s character the most I think. This book proves that mental healthcare is essential to everyone.

Overall, the story was good and it kept me interested and wanting more. A few times the love scenes were a little more graphic than I felt was needed and almost seemed out of place with the feel from the rest of the book. The main reason for 3 stars was that it was poorly edited and it distracted me! I felt like I needed to get my red pen out and I should have been focused on the story instead.

I was really excited about this book and had high hopes. The story was great, I loved the characters and I couldn’t put it down…but…HOLY ERRORS. I lost count of how many grammatical errors this book had. I don’t understand how this happens with all the editing and all the people that touch the book before it’s printed. With better editing, I would have given this book 5 stars.

If you have sex with an amnesia victim, who legally cannot give consent because of the amnesia, and you know she has amnesia, you are not a hero, you are a rapist.
