"Living every day in the light of Christ's return" is the theme of this devotional book from the authors of the best-selling Left Behind series. A unique "teaching devotional," Perhaps Today offers an in-depth look into the Scripture's teaching on Christ's second coming. Each devotional has a Bible passage and prayer to inspire the reader with an eternal perspective. For those interested in prophecy and especially for fans of the Left Behind series. Primarily New Living Translation used as Bible text.
Timothy "Tim" F. LaHaye was an American evangelical Christian minister, author, and speaker, best known for the Left Behind series of apocalyptic fiction, which he co-wrote with Jerry B. Jenkins.
He has written over 50 books, both fiction and non-fiction.
Struggled to decide what rating to give this book, as someone who is a firm believer in the rapture doctrine, but also someone who thinks Let Behind is a really horrible way to understand it; it was hard. Tim LaHaye has brought together great scripture to prepare for the coming of Christ, but it's still bogged down by some of the more fanatical points of the rapture and it's ideals.
For those reading this who don't know: The Rapture is the idea that the Christian Church will be caught up in the sky when Jesus returns, and right before the Tribulation of Earth begins. While the term "Rapture" is never used in the Bible, there is various verses and terms that point to an event that has become dubbed as "The Rapture". Now, that being said scholars either believe it's a fanatical point, will happen at the beginning of the 7 year tribulation, mid-trib, or right before the judgement of the Earth. I'd go into more detail, but I'd highly recommend you do more research before reading the rest of this review or the book.
For those who know about the rapture and not a believer(or searching): This is not the book for you. Find a pastor or someone else who can speak into you and help you better understand this doctrine. It is confusing and you can't find all the answers in Revelation. Many of the end time prophecies are in Daniel, Isaiah, and even the Gospels from the words of Jesus himself. It's confusing and only the Holy Spirit can help you make sense of it.
For those who are believers: This book is a great reminder of how to live in the end times. I don't condone his constant pushing of the Left Behind books as a way that people have come to Christ. While I'm not saying that is inherently bad, the Left Behind books have so many inconsistencies and fictional elements it doesn't portray much except: Fear. While we are called to Fear the Lord we are not called to fear the future and so many have simply come to the faith because of their fear of being left behind and not for the right reasons. I don't want to be to preachy about this, but this book is a great reminder of to looking towards Christ in the end days, but not a great theological study of the Rapture or End Times doctrine.
If anything skip the Left Behind series, read this book daily and then study further in the Bible about the end times doctrine and really know what God says, not just what others wrote about what God says.
*Note: I wrote this review with the mindset of giving the book 4 stars. I changed it to three after reading simply because the pushing of the Left Behind books is tasteless: Final review 3 stars.
Great series of devotionals, designed to prepare the reader for the end times. Lahaye is clearly a dispensationalist, pretrib. raputurest. But the readings address living because Jesus is coming soon.
Excellent and in depth daily devotional regarding the second coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this devotional for the last 90 days! Definitely helps to put our views on the promise of Christ’s return! I highly recommend this devotional!!
Having an interest in Prophetic and Apocalyptic Eschatology, I find this devotional book to be interesting. LaHaye is in his element when it comes to this subject matter.
