A boss/secretary story is hard to pull off these days. I’m not sure KR actually did it, but she did try to add some modern-day elements.

First of all, heroine has an economics degree and is good at her job. She is a virgin when her boss takes her to bed.

Hero is happy mixing work and pleasure, but heroine is not. She quits her job and breaks it off with the hero – even when he offers her another position in the company.

On the first day of her new job she finds out she’s working for the hero again. Yes, he owns this company, too.

He chases her around the desk and pretends only she is affected by his hot Greek Tycoon vibes. Then he abruptly snaps back to work. Then he orders her around. Then he worries she’s looking pale and faint all the time.

Yes, she’s pregnant. Yes, he blows hot and cold. Yes, she eventually agrees to marry him.

KR likes her big declarations of emotions during childbirth/medical emergencies and that’s when the hero finally has his epiphany.

There’s no new ground here, but this one will be enjoyable for those who like the genre.

Safety: heroine was virgin. Hero was married before and was celibate for the month the H/h were separated.

First time trying this writer. Not the worse. Easy reading but some nice bickering between the h and H. I had a problem with the time frame of the reconciliation of the h and H. One month apart is barely any time for angst or sexual frustration with a casual partner.

The H was alpha-ish. Not at all ruthless imho. The fact that he’s the h’s boss at the new workplace as well was a mediocre plot non-twist. And again, I understand that Katie was finally wary of her casual sex situation with her boss but I can’t like an h who’s easy like that.

Will try some other book by this writer sometime. The writing was good.

I really struggled between giving this a 2 or 3 star read. Overall, it is the typical storyline, young attractive woman falls in love with rich older man and get's pregnant. They marry due to obligations and then the Happily Ever After. I actually liked the hero a lot, and I really liked his tenderness and passion for the heroine. I also enjoyed the hero's family and the fact that they quickly embraced her into the loving folds of their family, willing to love and protect her.

But there were some rather serious flaws that I just couldn't get past...

1) The authority and work results were way beyond any 24 year old's ability. Just not possible, especially in a large company such as the one in the book. I don't know too many 24 year olds that make it to the boardroom, let alone get to present to other senior level execs.

2) The fact that he was her boss really soured me. When you add in the fact that the dialogue between them was sexual harassment, it just blew my mind. The fact that she allowed it, made me see red! There are laws against that. It also wasn't very credible. Someone in his position could ill afford to do the things he did. Brilliant business tycoons don't allow themselves to get into a situation where a young woman can charge them with harassment. They have too much to risk.

3) I didn't like the convenient miscarriage....and his coming to recognize his feelings because of it.

So balancing the good and the bad, I settled on a 2, which is an okay read.

Nice one! My heart broke as katie loved alexi hopelessly. Der was always the ghost of andrea in the background. I wish they had come upon her just to see alexi’s reaction as I’m not sure what were his feelings concerning his ex-wife. They seemed at best ambiguous. I thought katie dealt well wid the whole situation! She made the best of her circumstances, be it at the start when she refused his job offer as she did not want to pursue their affair; or in the middle of the book when she realized she was pregnant or near the end when she got married to him for the sake of their baby. She always took the right initiatives in my opinion and I admired her for dat!

He blackmails her into marrying him after finding out that she is pregnant.

I don’t understand why she was thinking she couldn’t financially take care of a baby. The job she has with her Economics degree can’t be low-paid, if I read what her tasks are.

So there seemed to be no real financial need (even if she thinks so, but maybe she thinks the baby needs a golden nursery and a diamond pacifier) for her to being forced to marry the H.

The lack of financial need to marry him, took away the angst. I didn’t have the feeling that she was left with no other choice than to marry him.

I read a review here stating that the h was a virgin when she met the H, but no, she wasn’t a virgin.

This was a sweet book. I could tell the two cared for one another. The chemistry was steamy. I just wished I would have felt more of a loving connection. At the very end you could tell they loved one another, so they did get their HEA. Just wished I would have felt it a little sooner. She was a strong heroine, but at the same time had a lot of insecurities. Alexi was a strong alpha Greek man. It was nice to see his true feelings come out in the last chapter. This was a good book, but nothing stood out to make this an extra special book. I’ve read several books with this same story line.

It's a good book to read however could be written better as it's quite confusing since you go from Alexi to Katie back to Alexi in a sentence. Nice storyline just needs better work on the writing as you don't really get a idea of who Alexi is other than a workaholic.

I really liked it, the hero in particular. I Liked the heroine but her desperation to be loved by hero was a bit over the top however I understand it. P.

Katie Connor decides to end her affair with her boss Alexi Demetri. She knows that there is no future in it and wants to have a real and meaningful relationship with someone. She breaks up with him and finds a new job a month later, only to discover that her new boss is none other that Alexi, who has bought over her new company. Then she discovers that she is pregnant. Since his divorce years ago, Alexi has sworn that he will never love anyone again, but when he finds out that Katie is expecting her child, her forces her to marry him.

It was nice to see a heroine working in a high powered job (as opposed to being a secretary or personal assistant). Unfortunately it was not quite believable that a 24 year old would hold the position that Katie does. Someone does comment on her age, and I guess that's supposed to make it all right, but it really didn't ring true. Putting that aside, I started off liking Katie but that didn't last long. She let herself get into a purely physical relationship with Alexi even though it went against her personal beliefs. By the time the story starts, she has realised that she can't continue like this and chooses to get out. I thought I was finally seeing a heroine with some self respect. Unfortunately, as soon as Alexi finds out about her pregnancy, she lets him walk all over her. He threatens to sue for custody of their child if she doesn't marry him. When she tentatively agrees to the marriage and tries to gain some control by insisting on a long engagement, he railroads her again by making her marry him immediately. The whole time my mind kept screaming "Prenup!". I can't believe all these "Blackmailed into marriage" and "Marriage of convenience" plots where the heroine doesn't insist on a prenuptial agreement, especially in this case where custody of a child is at stake. Katie is terrified of losing custody of her unborn child, yet it never occurs to her that once she marries Alexi, if he divorces her she will almost certainly lose custody. Instead, Alexi whips out his prenup agreement and she doesn't even bother reading it properly. They get married with Katie knowing she loves him but will never be loved in return. I can deal with Alexi not loving Katie, but some basic respect would have been nice. On their wedding night Katie asks if Alexi missed her after they broke up, to which he replies, "You know I've missed you. You're great in bed, Katie." Yuck, yuck, yuck. It's excused by the fact that Alexi is fighting against his feelings for Katie, and is thus deliberately rude. Personally, I cannot abide heroes treating heroines like this, and I hate heroines that allow it. Katie is hurt by it, but then immediately has sex with Alexi again. Sigh. Eventually, Alexi realises that Katie isn't happy being married to him and things culminate when Katie has a miscarriage scare. This being a category romance, the baby is not lost, but it forces Alexi to admit that he loves Katie and doesn't want to lose her even if they lose the baby.

I suppose in the end I did enjoy this book, but the miscarriage scare was too convenient. I would have found it far more believable is Katie had actually had a miscarriage rather than just thinking there was a problem. This book was pretty standard fare. Arrogant jerk of a hero finally succumbs to love. It wasn't bad, but there was really nothing special here.

Katie Connor is super-woman. She is twenty-four and high-powered businesswoman who has all the respect and status of an executive in their forties. She is the perfect, most amazing worker ever and she attracts the sexy boss into an affair with none of those sticky emotions. She manages to give the boss the boot, leave her job, AND get another high-powered job no-sweat. I want that woman's life!

I'm twenty-three and I find it absolutely crazy to expect a twenty-four year old to have that sort of success. The majority of the people I know are lucky to get a job at all versus a job like that. Plus the number of wealthy, foreign and young executives are sadly dwindling in my line of work.

Katie, of course, leaves her job and gets another one. Her old lover/boss is her new boss naturally which causes all sorts of crazy. He wants her working closely with him and seemingly invents all sorts of meetings she must attend for her job. She agrees and off the go. In the meantime she discovers she's pregnant with his child AND he demands marriage. No one apparently has heard of actual romance when the man demands marriage. They get married and crazy ensues.

What floored me throughout the entirety of the book was Katie's absolute ineptitude at protecting her and her child's interests. He doesn't want her to work? Done! He wants a pre-nup? Done! Does she read it? NO! He wants to pretend they're madly in love? Sure! I could go on and on.

She does not try to secure custody in the event of a divorce. She doesn't demand to be allowed to work even though she loves her job. She doesn't fight moving to his home in Greece. She doesn't do much of anything other than complain he doesn't love her. While it is a valid complaint, it seems the least of her worries.

Alexi has one of those "OH MY GOD I LOVE HER!" moments and rushes to her side, comforting her and claiming he loves her. If it were me, I would question the hell out of that. I understand at the time she's dealing with a miscarriage scare and is a tad preoccupied, but still. He gives no indication he intends to have an actual commitment until that exact second and she blindly accepts it. I'd like to hope she makes him grovel after the ending of the book, but who knows.

It was a shame that there wasn't more angst in this novel because that would of made it almost perfect. Other than that, the novel was likable, well written and kept my interest.
