Who Was Amelia Earhart? biography series for middle grade brings another fascinating figure and great role model for children.

Amelia Mary Earhart, born 1897 in Kansas, as a child sees her first airplane at the Iowa State Fair, but it is not then when her passion starts.

At Ogontz School in Pennsylvania, one of her teachers is a very independent woman who inspires many girls to be independent, rather than rely on a man. Amelia picks career over marriage, except at that moment, she doesn’t know what career she wants. The answer comes when she sees an air show in California in 1920. She wants to become a pilot.

Her path shows young readers that even when you figure out what you want to do, it isn’t always a straight forward path, sometimes you have to take detours and do something else meanwhile. But when the opportunity comes your way, you need to grab it.

She becomes a famous pilot and encourages other women to become pilots. She loves setting records. With all her different involvements, she becomes a good model for young girls. She becomes a pioneer who said, “You can do anything you decide to do.”

This biography seems to be one of the shortest in the series as it targets audience 7-10 years. With simple sentences and story progressing fast, it’s an engaging read for this target audience.

Who Was Amelia Earhart? by Kate Boehm Jerome is a wonderful book about this great lady in a time when women were just beginning to stand on their own two feet, she is flying! This is a wonderful story of a strong willed and level headed girl and her goal to be more than someone who sits at home and makes babies. She was a doer. She had a very interesting life and this book tells all kinds of personal details history books would leave out. Great book for any age.

Amelia Earhart is incredible.

Everyone knows she was the first female to fly the Atlantic solo (she was also the first female to cross the Atlantic in a plane as a passenger) and how her story ended, but I didn't know about all the other ways she was amazing.

First off, she was just a wicked cool person. She always knew her own mind and didn't let society dictate what she "should" do or be. Even though her family had a lot of money, when she went away to school she'd tell her mom not to send any money for clothes because she didn't want them and she usually bought her stuff secondhand. I love how down-to-earth she is.

When she was a little girl they went a World Fair and she saw a roller coaster. She decided that she was going to build one. It nearly caused her to run into a horse but she ended up going through it's legs instead!

She didn't want to get married because she didn't want to give up her career. She didn't see why women had to choose. Even when a guy she liked followed her across the country because he still wanted to marry her, she said no because she wanted to be free to live her life the way she wanted.

She loved learning to fly. It's lucky her parents had the money to support her lessons at first, later on, when there were money troubles, Amelia worked hard and did things she didn't really want to, (writing and speaking) to help earn money to keep flying.

She met George Putnam when he asked her to be a female passenger crossing the Atlantic. Even though she didn't fly the plane, since she was the first woman, she still got a lot of attention and that helped jumpstart her own flying career and eventually she became the first woman to fly the Atlantic solo.

She inspired a lot of women and young girls. She helped start a flying club for women and helped an airline company convince more people to fly. She did stunts and always pushed herself.

I wish we'd gotten more time with Amelia. She's phenomenal and in her short life inspired many people.

I really liked this book. Amelia Earhart loved to fly planes, she was born on July 24 1897. She wanted to set records on flying and she did! She was the first woman to fly across the Atlantic ocean and the Pacific ocean and she was a courageous pilot and disappeared during the around the world flight in 1937, no one has seen her since our saw her plane. So, if you like biographies and learning about the past then I will recommend this book to you.

I love reading this series with my kiddos--I learn something new about important individuals in history, music, science, etc. Amelia Earhart was one of my childhood heroes (I lost the argument to name my daughter after her, but that's okay), and I loved that Kiefer wanted to read this book and do a "family book report" about her.

One fun fact I learned: in addition to being a pilot and an activist, Amelia Earhart helped start the airline industry. Who was hired as the first flight attendants? I wasn't surprised to find that women were. But I didn't know that they were nurses--hired to take care of passengers, most of whom got sick on the flights (due to bumps and fumes)!

On to the next one...

Who Was Amelia Earhart tells the story about a woman who was in many ways a pioneer for generations of women to come. She defied what men thought she could not to and did it anyway. It also mentions her mysterious disappearance in July of 1937. I give this five stars because it is a very informational book about feminist icon and it is important we show young girls women like this.

I learned a lot about Amelia, but think the author did women a disservice in saying that "most women" were fine with getting married and staying home in order to make Amelia seem like she was the only one that wasn't.

The book I finished reading is Who Was Amelia Earhart? This book was AMAZING🤗! You should read it. First, if you like history and learning about people this book is for you. This book is about a girl who loves planes and wants to be a piolot one day. Little does she no that wish does come true but she has to work for it and crazy things happen. Then, she enters a compition but something CRAZY 😬 happens! You will have to read the book to find out though. Secondly, it tells a great story of a dream. All in all, there are many more reasons this is a great book but theese are the main reasons. If you read the book and like it tell me and I have many more great book options like this one.

This is a great book about someone who was strong willed, independent, and brave. She fought for women rights, and wasn't scared to be the first to try something. This book gives great background knowledge about who Amelia Earhart was, and everything that she accomplished throughout her life. This would be a great book to use to talk about bravery, and heroism!

In Who Was Amelia Earhart, it tells the story of the first female aviator to fly by solo across the Atlantic Ocean. It goes through all her accomplishments leading up to being the first female aviator to fly across the Atlantic alone. Then it goes into talking about her disappearance. She was attempting to fly around the world and be the first female to do it solo. Somewhere along the way everyone lost communication with her and she disappeared. Still to this day no one knows what happen to her. This book is a great way for students who are starting to read chapter books to read books that are nonfiction. It tells a story about a woman who helped influence history. All of the Who Was books are great for students who are learning about history or historical figures. They aren’t too long of books so it’s easy for students to read them all.
