In a dystopian future where a single organization controls all goods and services, thousands of impoverished Americans abandon pride and freedom to become part of Everything Incorporated. When Paul Harper, alone and failed, makes his way to Enterprise City, will he find fulfillment in a new beginning, or be buried underground, like all he's left behind?Everything Inc. is a story of perseverance and redemption. Finding purpose in a world where purpose has been removed.
solid work. geoff shines again with quirky characters, dogie. a little bit slow going but there were some really clever lines, humor, and a lot of depth in this. at times it felt a little over my head, like maybe there were pieces missing or maybe it's just me cuz i'm pretty effed up lately. well worth checking out.
Geoff has a great command of the subtleties of language. His stories are character driven and build slowly with ambiance and atmosphere. The only way I can describe it is that he has a kind of Stephen King way of showing you normal life, and then having the veil slowly removed to reveal the creepy in this world. He shows you the themes of Man vs. The Machine (corporations etc) and other wrinkles in our humanity.
Everything Inc. is a man vs the corporation story. The characters are very real and relatable. The chapters move along at a nice pace, and there were several twists/unexpected scenes that were fun.
I hate to say this but Mr. Sturtevant writing fits more or less how I see the far away future as. I have no trouble buying into this story. If is a little strange, very different and unique. Short, to the point of how a company takes over everything and everybody but the question is how they are using the people they are hiring. Could it be for slave labor, to help people who need help, or could it be so much more than our minds can handle?
The narrator as always does a wonderful job with his narration, his male characters are always outstanding pulling you in with the emotions he gives them. The fear, excitement, danger, unsure is show very easy in how he displays his characters tones. I was hanging on the edge with each new discovery as well as what happens to the people when they are no longer there. There are no background noises, no volume changes and no repeating of words. The narrator gives you a very clear, clean audio that takes you way making it easy to feel the horrors, the unsure, the pain and sorrow of losing everything you have only to find you're as far down as you can go. I enjoyed his narration and the powerful tones he gives each character. I look forward to listening to more of his work.
I thought this was a very interesting listen that held my attention keeping me invested in the story. It has a great plot and is a little out there but most of this authors writing are. He makes his stories unique and fascinating. I had no trouble at all buying into the story and feel somewhere along the way in this crazy world this could be our future to some point. Great job I totally loved it.
I am a great fan of this author's newest works especially on audible, i wanted to read some of his earlier work too. This book can be appreciated by anyone who has worked a job and wondered why they had to work for so little praise and pay cheque. A tongue-in-cheek look at the company Everything INC and a few men who toil there. "Every joke is a tiny revolution." "If only it were all it took to keep a family together. A few burgers and my own good will." "You think you're moving forward, but inevitably, you lose more than you gain." This book also was about friendship and how if you have a friend at work it makes it more tolerable and fun. Now on to the next book...
Everything Inc. is set during a time where one big corporation controls the world. The perfect example of Monopolization; yet, it is written to allow the characters to make this a sad and funny story at the same time.
I found myself empathetic one minute and laughing the next. The author did a great job bringing this story to life with excellent imagery and directing the story to unfold perfectly to maintain the interest of the reader.
The narrator performed Everything Inc. with voices to match each character and made the best of the authors work. I enjoyed Everything Inc. and rated it with 4 HUGE stars. I highly recommend it.
Great story with excellent narration. A great interpretation on a world which could quite well exist. Enjoyed the audiobook so much have listened to it several times!
Another sublime Orwellian nightmare from Mssr. Sturtevant. Geoff has a knack for making this reoccurring bad dream seem mundane and inevitable, and all the creepier for it. We are paying for it in installments with our apathy and our laziness. Everything Inc. is just a slight caricature of the pervasive corporate monopolies that already handle most of the mundane details of our lives. They grow strong by selling convenience; fat mammals that we are, there's nothing we like better . . . This story seems like an extrapolation of Sturtevant's earlier piece, Return to the Dirt - which you should buy as well!!
Not all gloom and doom though . . . well, subject matter-wise . . . but as always with Sturtevant, the pacing is great; the characters are well done, the protagonist sympathetic. High quality writing with a sardonic sense of humor and a social conscience. What more do you want?!
Great dystopian story that is way too close to the truth of how our society is moving forward. This book captured my attention from the beginning! This is my second book by Sturdevant and I think what I seem to like most about his books are the characters and the detail he puts into them. Paul J. McSorley brings the characters and the story to life. Excellent book!
