Just Around the Corner: Poems is a poetry book that is full of poems that talks about moments through the illustrations and words written. Although, it was a quick and easy read, I was left mostly confused about what I was reading and because the poems were so short, there was too quick of a turn around to a completely different topic for the next poem. Although I can see the educational potential with the book for young poetry learners, it is not something I would consider using to teach poetry since I believe there are far better poetry books that could be used. All in all, I was not a fan of Just Around the Corner: Poems and I would not read it to my future classroom.
Just Around the Corner is a collection of poems by James Stevenson. These 26 poems reminded me of why I always said that I hated poetry. I did like the way that the poems were written. Some were in block or paragraph form, some were zigzagging all over the page, some were bold, others written sideways, and others written top to bottom. I was lured in by the different shapes and fonts but as I began reading I could not understand what more than half of the poems were about. I would have understood just as much by just looking at the illustrations which were pretty good in an abstract way.
" why did I pick so many books? " I answered sarcastically. Well, I was on my knees on the library floor and I was putting my hands on the shelves looking for a book I would be kind of intrested in between my school classes. And I saw all of these poem books. And I can't lie, but I took some that they're wwas only 1 book of poems left!
there is little to no value inany of these poems. james stevenson is an illustrator to some classic by Pertlutsky but thos failed miserably because the writer is absent from this one. don't bother
