Buds

Rate this book
Wildus Guidry, amateur scientist extraordinaire, invents time travel. To his bitter disappointment, he discovers his device only transports him mere fractions of a second into the past. Inhabiting the new, alternate world of that fractional past is a variation of Homo sapiens that reproduce asexually by budding and uses sex only as a recreational pastime and as a means of feeding. Disappointed by his discovery, Guidry and his entrepreneurial girlfriend decide to bring back some of the Buds and open the world’s most bizarre and exclusive brothel - the Buds’ unique appearance as grotesquely erotic conjoined twins, triplets, quadruplets (and more!) prove to be incredibly popular amongst the brothel’s elite clientele. Of course, all goes terribly wrong as the Buds turn out to be not as benign as first thought, and chaos and the end of the world ensues. Buds is a unique, sexy take on the popular time travel trope, and a must for all lovers of conjoined twin tales. Erotic, at times brutal and disturbing, Buds is a story told with lashings of dark humor.

I was given a copy in exchange for an honest review.

What can I say about Buds? What can I say about James H Longmore? Damn.

I've shared the TOC of a couple of anthologies with Mr. Longmore, but never read his stories before. My tbr rarely includes works I'm in. I had heard about Buds on a podcast and in that moment reached out to Mr. Longmore who quite graciously gave me a review copy.

Buds is about Wildus Guidry, an inventor and time traveler who travels seconds into the past and ends up in what seems to be a parallel universe, but is described as another timeline. In this timeline there are conjoined people. I say this because, they tend to have more than just a pair, thus being more than twins. They're also Asexual and have buds on different parts of their bodies where their offspring protrude from. The buds are also sex fiends and offer up the most depraved types of sexual acts. This discovery leads to Wildus opening a Buds brothel for humans to experience the darkest of their carnal desires.

I really don't want to give out too much, but I will say this, if you don't mind a lot of sex in your literature then get this book. While there is a lot of sexual content in this book it isn't smut. There's an interesting plot in this book. This may be the weirdest thing I've read in 2018 and is definitely my favorite read so far this year.
