Monkeys are a fan favorite at our house, especially when they are getting into trouble! The pictures are vibrant and fun. This book is a great way to expose our son to new vocabulary and counting while waiting to see what the monkeys get up to next.
I received this book through Goodreads First Reads, for free for potential review.
First of all I was ecstatic to have one a children's book so close to my nephews birthday party since that is what I was hoping for. Second it is really exciting that it is about monkey's because before he was born we called him a monkey! :) I was reading the book before I got back from my mailbox. I was thrown by the big words, since it is going to be for a four year old. but by the end of the book I was actually enjoying the book myself, and I am 25 years old. And I also realize it is not intended for 4 year years because of the big words and counting backwards from 10. I was super excited about the glossary in the back of the book!
I would recommend this book to anybody with children in kindergarten or up!!
Really cute little book and the rhyming made it much more interesting also, i was taken back to my childhood for a couple minutes with the monkey's jumping on the bed! :)
It will make a lovely Birthday present and I might just have to read that book to him every time I get a chance! :)
This is much more than a simple counting book. The author uses a regular vocabulary, and then supplies a glossary at the end to help your child learn words like "cheeky," "studious," and "athletic." It's really wonderful to find a book that helps with general learning. The illustrations are simply adorable. We had a lot of fun naming our ten monkeys, and then re-reading it using our names for the ones who were engaged in that page's activity. The book is a lot of fun to read to a child because of the rhyming format, and yet it is not the practical tongue-tripping frantic pace of some children's book. I highly recommend this book!
I won this book in a first reads giveaway and I'm SO glad I did! I really love it and my boys do too. The story is a cute little counting down story about what the monkeys all do but the vocabulary is awesome (and there is a neat little glossary in the back!) I love the different antics they get in and the illustrations that accompany them. This is the perfect book for both my boys (my 5 year old who wants to read so bad and my 6 year old who reads at a third grade level) because it has enough for both to keep entertained. I'm sure my oldest will be wanting to take this to the daycare to read to the kids this summer.
This is a children’s book, teaching to count. But, way beyond simple counting, this little book will teach way beyond counting to ten. The book will also expand vocabulary (there is a wonderful index of definitions) and teach companionship, friendship, colors, facial expression. An absolutely terrific bed-time book. Yikes, what a wonderfully imaginative little book.
I was fortunate enough to review a ‘proof’ copy.
This would make a terrific book as a gift for a new parent or a young one's birthday. You won’t be sorry!
My grandson's nickname has been Monkey since he was tiny, so this was a perfect book for him to have at Nana's house. Not only does it teach about numbers, but also about colors, about friendship, and it will increase their vocabulary (definitions are included in a glossary for such words as cheeky, studious, athletic, obviously, etc.)
I received a copy of this book from First Reads in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.
This is a fun and cute book. It is nice to see a young children's book that is really emphasizing a strong vocabulary. One of the really nice features of the book is a glossary section which defines all of the really difficult vocab words. The illustrations in this are wonderful! I really enjoyed seeing various different monkeys get into all sorts of situations. This is a book parents and kids will enjoy!
I received this book from Goodreads. What kid doesn't like monkeys? We all grew up with entertaining monkey mayhem and this is another gem to add to the vault. The words are easy to understand, but if you don't- never fear! Just flip to the back and read the simplified definition. Plus, its has pictures! On. Every. Single. Page. I like that in a book.
Another wonderful book by Kat Michels! This counting book has amazing vocabulary with a glossary at the end. It's very well written and has wonderful illustrations! It is a must have!
My copy was actually a kindle copy but ISBN was for a hard copy so --- this was an adorably illustrated cute and comical book about 10 monkeys who get into all sorts of trouble. When the last one ends up alone and lost they all come back to go back home. Had a lovely glossary at the end also – cute enough to read many times.
My daughter thought this book was so cute! She said it reminded her of the 10 little monkeys jumping on the bed book but she liked this one better because they weren't getting yelled at to go to bed 😂
10 Cheeky Monkeys by Kat Michels Cute children's rhyming colorful book about what happens to some monkeys. Hard to read some of the words on some of the pages. Glossary of words used are explained at the back with photos. My favorite was page where monkey is reading a book, very studious.
I have never been one to use baby-talk with children, however I would curb my more advanced vocabulary since little kids don't know big words. I held this belief until a friend's five year-old informed me that his three year-old brother was, "not very loquacious." While this particular child is obviously gifted, it did occur to me that maybe the vocabulary of kids is limited to small words, because they are not generally exposed to big words. This epiphany hit me while I was working on "10 Silly Monkeys." I took a look at all of my adjectives in the book, and decided that is was high time to introduce kids to some new words. Silly became cheeky, naughty became mischievous, and so on and so forth. After the second person asked me to define the word 'penitent' for them, I added a glossary to the back with kid-friendly definitions. After all, even if you know what a word means, it's not always easy to explain it someone else. My hope is that this book will not only enforce a child's counting skills, but will also help them develop a love of new words
