A survivor of the Holocaust recounts his years of fear, describing the Nazi occupation of his native Norway, his role in the Resistance, his imprisonment at Dachau, and his road to recovery. Reprint.
Arne Brun Lie was a Norwegian teenager imprisoned by the Nazis for resistance activities. He wrote this book during the 1980s, on a transatlantic sailing trip, as a way of coming to terms with his experience. My father knew him, and my mother occasionally held him up as an example of what a real man ought to be when I was growing up.
