Arne Brun Lie was a Norwegian teenager imprisoned by the Nazis for resistance activities. He wrote this book during the 1980s, on a transatlantic sailing trip, as a way of coming to terms with his experience. My father knew him, and my mother occasionally held him up as an example of what a real man ought to be when I was growing up.
