Monica had a drug addicted callous mother, who made it clear right off the rip, that she was on her own. So from stuffing steaks and pork chops down the back of her pants to help feed her siblings or stealing clothes at the local mall, Monica was determined to survive. While trying to graduate and make it to her Prom on time, she's busted and the stuff hits the fan. In prison, she's schooled by one of the best shoplifters in the game and is turned on to the true art of getting loot. Upon her release she devises a scheme to get her share, steps up to the plate and makes things happen! Surrounded by Crackheads, Drug Dealers and Thieves, she has only one choice if she wants to make it.. Monica's Motto- GET IT HOW YA LIVE!!!
The name of my book is Get It How Ya Live by Michel Moore. This novel is fiction. This novel is abotu a dopefein crackhead mother name Jenette.Jenette has a 3 kids name Monica(which is the oldest)kayla(youngest)and dennise(middle child).Jenette has a serious problem with drugs and just dont know when its enough is enough.she has left her kids homeless with no clothes, food,or an good use of education she left it all to monica.Monica didnt have no choice but to steal everything to provide for her brother and sister.Monica had so much to think about and all of that stealing got her caught by the police.Monica went to jail for a couple of months and the couple of monthes that she was in there she learned alot from her jail friend that was way older than her more like her mother that she never had. They were in jail for the same reason(stealing)but her jail friend was more like a stealing queen so she taught monica how to steal and not get caught, but also while she was in jail she got some bad news about her brother(cant give the story away)and it made her flip out.several day later she was released she promised her jail friend she was gonna keep in touch and thats what she did.The story gets better so ill leave it to yall to find out the rest.this book is very interesing it makes you want say whats gonna happen next thats how I was.my favorite part was when Monica opened up her clothes storebecause she was so happy and she never though she was gonna get this far with no help but she found that one that got her far.my favorite charater was Monica because she accompplished alot without a mother.my question for this book is how can you her someone you brought to the world?????This book remind me of my mother when she had to take care of her kids on her own and she had no mother to help her.I would recommend this book to teenagers, girls, boys, parents, and mature readers because parents and teens can see how the real life is and what can happen to them in the future."if you liked Get It How Ya Live",you might like crackheak because they both contain a crackhead and the charaters are almost alike.
GET IT HOW YA LIVE is not necessarily in a genre I would read, but I like to step out on occasion from my comfort zone. Some of the language is rough. Some of the interpersonal scenes are tough to take. The morality is mostly lost on me. Ms. Moore has captured a life that I can't imagine, haven't lived, and wouldn't want to live, especially with these people. The writing is consistent and controlled. Kudos for that. The plot moves forward at times with great logic (especially the first half and her fall), and at times with reality very much suspended (the prep, set-up, and creation of the boutique shop).
The downfall of the ultimate bad player is well-deserved, and for the most part well handled. Other than one old woman dwelling in a run-down apartment whose station in life is elevated by the story's heroine, and I use the term loosely, I can't really cheer for any of the characters in the story. They didn't rise above being what they were, and in fact, some of them became worse people by the end of the story, showing a moral fiber that relies on stealing, selling drugs, enforcement by brutality (murder and beatings), selling people, and prostitution. And because they were good at these endeavors, they felt somehow superior to everyone else. Even the little girl turns out to be a snot-nosed, little princess, who knows all the goodness she's getting from big sis is tainted goods, but acts like she's done something to deserve it. I wanted to slap her, and slap her hard.
And big sis was right to reject her mother in the end, but she can't crow about her success. It was done through shop lifting, theft, and monstrous amounts of cash and goods from "gangstas." She crawled up from the sewer she started in, but just moved into another cesspool of deceitful living and never acknowledging those she hurt through her criminal activities. She'll be a widow within two years and then cry about why such a loving man could be taken from her. The read wasn't bad, but the people were all prostitutes of one sort or another. These people ran around with their moral compasses turned totally off. Nothing to cheer about in this story. It's a three at best.
I loved this book right from the beginning!!! I'm so happy how it ended but I am hoping for a Part 2 just to see what all happens with everyone. I give this book 5 stars and I highly recommend it to others to read!!! I want to say more but I don't want to ruin the story for others!!!!
