I love this edition because it includes a c.d. of the music AND sample drawings which are a sure hit with crowds when performing this song without the book.

The drawings are silly and require no skill. The performer makes a squiggle, pauses, makes another squiggle, pauses, adds some more lines, and in about four steps has created an animal, at which point a verse is sung. This is repeated for every verse and is great fun.

However, if this is being shared with children at home the drawing part of the experience is unnecessary. Just enjoy the pictures provided in this spiral bound edition.

This book is a great way to introduce animals and their sounds through song. The book starts with a rooster and as you turn the pages, more and more animals come into the song. The meowing cat, the quacking duck are just a few of the animals is this book. I can see my students reading this over and over, while their singing. The illustrations are so bright and colorful that you can't help getting caught up into the folksong. There's even a CD that comes along with the book that you could use in the classroom. I would use it for PreK-1 graders. This brought back many memories of my mother teaching my brothers and I song about animals on a farm and their sounds.
