Written by a professor on his sabbatical and published by Harvard Press-I figured this book would be dry and tough to get through, it was not! The material for the book was collected in the 1950s, so I imagine some things have changed, but it was still fascinating and worth a read. I enjoyed this book and looked forward to picking it up for a reading and wish that he was able to go back and write a revised, updated edition. He visited the villages and spoke to people and spoke with government officials as research for the book and covered just about every aspect of life. There was an escapist effect on me as I read it. A great insight to rural village life in Greece in the 1950s.
