“Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.” – Murphy’s Law
Ryan I told her forever, but it seems forever meant something different to her. And now she’s back, claiming to love another and needing me to release her from our vows. If she thinks I have held out for this long and will give up that easily, then I’ll thoroughly enjoy teaching her that when I offer a vow to another, it’s an unbreakable one. She’s mine and I’ll do anything to keep it that way.
Chloe He told me forever, but one of us has to let the other go. I knew it would have to be me. He always was the sentimental one. He’ll see my disavowal as the worst possible betrayal. At least, I’m really hoping so. If he insists on pretending he still loves me after all this time, then it’s going to get messy. And I’m sick and tired of cleaning up my messes.
Travel romance writer, Holly Mortimer, will transport you to the shores of romantic Ireland, where you'll lose yourself inside the drama and the love that is The Murphy family. From oldest to youngest, these five siblings fall in and out of love, travel the Irish countryside and learn that loving someone, doesn't always go as planned.
Holly transports the reader into her world, filled with travel, babies and lots of alphas!
This was a short read that packed a punch. Secrets come to a head when these two long lost lovers are reunited after a ten year separation.
“When confronted with the man he had become, the girl inside me he had once loved wanted to weep.”
Married right out of high school, Chloe disappears right after her honeymoon night, never to be heard from again. Ryan has no idea what to make of what happened, but doesn’t expect the divorce papers that arrive shortly after. He refuses to sign them, convinced she will make her way back to him. Ten years later, she comes walking back into his life determined to get a divorce.
“She was it for me, always had been and always would be.”
Ryan has waited a long time for Chloe to come back to him. He’s not going to let her go until he knows once and for all what happened all those years ago. He has to find a way to get through to Chloe if they are ever going to move forward.
Things move quickly between these two. The story drew me in, and I couldn’t wait until everything was out in the open. This is a great start for a new series. Lots of side characters that I wanted to know more about. I really enjoyed Holly’s writing in this story of love’s second chance.
“I haven’t. Moved on, that is. Love ya as much today as I did back then. I’ve just been waiting for you to come to your senses and come back to me.”
We first meet Ryan as a bartender in Brennan Murphy’s bar in ‘Worlds Apart,’ The Murphy Boys book 1. Each is a stand-a-lone but it was neat to get the feel of his personality in Brennan’s book, so I would definitely encourage any reader to check it out. These boys are all about family and keeping your word, your vow, and this is at the heart of this novella.
Ten years ago, as an eighteen year old student, Ryan meets his forever love, Chloe Carson, two years younger and very much under the influence of her wealthy, controlling and unloving father. She was “my perfect vision of forever, except forever had plans for us that didn’t include a yellow brick road to love. No, Chloe and I were headed to Hell, on a road paved with only the best of intentions.”
The day after they eloped, Ryan wakes up to find his errant wife has disappeared, and despite his attempts to look for her, and to contact her, she as stayed away from Ireland, until now.
Chloe comes back into Ryan’s life on the day of his cousin, Brennan’s wedding to Samantha Lane, whose story is book 1. She has come to face Ryan, and make sure this chapter in their lives comes to an end. She has her own reasons for staying away, and those reasons will remain her own.
‘Avow’ is a beautifully written novella, with the feel of a novel. Nothing is missed or rushed, and, the heart-breaking story behind their enforced separation makes you wish all the more for the HEA that they deserve. I loved this story. It had all the right feels, from a bit of laughter, a lot of heartbreak, right through to lots of Murphy love and family support. 5 Stars.
I really enjoyed reading Ryan's novella. I'm so happy that we got to read Ryan's love story! Absolutely loved Ryan and Chloe. Avow had a great storyline and really liked Holly's writing style. The only thing I wish was that there was more of an ending or at least an epilogue. Could not put this book down! Can't wait to start Expectation!
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of Book 1 of The Murphy's Law Series, but before I read it I dived into this book as it is technically the first in the series. This book, like the other in the series is set in Ireland. I love the language/dialect from Ireland so I love reading many books from authors who set their stories in Ireland. This story is about Ryan and Chloe. Ryan is a Murphy and his family is from Ireland. He helps run his family Pub. Years ago when he was barely 18 he married Chloe, the love of his life. The next morning she was gone, with no goodbye, no phone number or anything. Now she shows back up at his pub asking for a divorce 10 years later. He is not going to let this happen. He wants answers to why she left, but is she willing to give him the answers he deserves? IT takes everything she has to come to Ryan to ask or this divorce. She knows this is gonna be a bad idea. But she has no idea how hard its going to be to see Ryan again. This is an amazing story! I loved it, and wished it was longer! 4.5 Stars!
This is a novella about Ryan and Chloe Murphy. Married at 18, Chloe left after 1 night with no explanation. Fast forward 10 years and the story picks up. I couldn't help but root for them! You could see that the love never left and I prayed that they ended up together! A pretty quick read. While a standalone, it touches on the lives of the other characters in the series.

A good introduction into Chloe and Ryan's story. They have a complicated past and a lot has changed over the years apart but I look forward to finding out what comes next.
When I read Brennan's book, I was intrigued by his Irish cousin, Ryan. I knew I wanted his story -- and I have to say, Holly Mortimer certainly did not disappoint.
In what I feel is her best piece yet, we get to truly meet and know Ryan, and see just who has been claiming his heart for the last ten years.
The beginning was what truly impressed me with Ms. Mortimer's writing growth. She takes us to when Ryan first meets his Chloe -- back in school. She has the classic Irish looks with her beautiful dark hair, but he knows she's not from there. They embark upon a sweet high school romance... and one day, she's just gone.
When she shows up back at the pub, ten years later, we readers are thrown for an even bigger loop -- and suddenly Ryan's character becomes so much bigger. Ryan's love for Chloe was so incredibly evident on the pages, and watching as we meet Chloe and learn what exactly happened ten years ago...
I do wish the book was one of Ms. Mortimer's full length ones, simply because I loved these two so much. She handled the minimal word count well; there were a few instances where I felt that emotions jumped from one extreme to the other faster than they would have with more time and word space, but putting that aside, this was hands-down my favorite title of Ms. Mortimer's.
We're going to be staying in Ireland a bit longer with this new spin-off series, so I'm sure my heart will be happy with glimpses of Chloe and Ryan as the series progresses. The next to fall is one who's smart words had me excited from the moment we met him...
Well-written light, sweet read with a touch of heat and a solid helping of humor
They may have only been teenagers when they married, but Ryan Murphy never stopped loving Chloe, even though she leaves him without a word after a single night together. When they meet again after ten years, Chloe has returned to Ireland to convince Ryan to sign divorce papers, but Ryan is determined to finally get some answers.
I liked both Ryan and Chloe, and thought all the characters in this short romance were well-done and believable. The basic plot of this second chance romance may have been fairly standard, but the characters and the Irish setting more than made up for it. A well-written light, sweet read with a touch of heat and a solid helping of humor. 4 to 4.5 stars
I absolutely adored this novella. Ryan's heart has belonged to another for 10 years. Chloe has never stopped loving her husband, but made a decision 10 years ago that she has had to live with. What happens when she returns to Ireland to ask for something that she feels they both need? When the truth comes out what will happen? What happens when Chloe is reminded of their vows? This was a sweet novella that kept me captivated from page one thru the end. Such emotions radiate from the pages. Great story, well written and loved the characters. So enjoyable and a recommended one click!
This is a short, sweet, second chance romance. Ryan and Chloe were high school sweethearts, who end up married, and after just one night together Chloe disappears. 10 Years later when Chloe returns in order to get Ryan to sign divorce papers, things do not quite go as planned. Ryan is determined to get answers as to why she disappeared. This is a well written story by this author, and I loved the humour as well. Only downfall was I wished it had been longer! Regardless, I look forward to reading more from Holly in the future.
Wow...... this book makes me want to explore the series. I know it's set after book one, I highly recommend reading that one first, but it was a great teaser for me to see how she writes.
The story felt a little incomplete for me but that could be because I didn't read book 1 or more exploration takes place in book 2.
The characters were strong and relatable. I love that in a story. The storyline could have been a little stronger and once again this could be achieved through 1 & 2 but overall that was enjoyable to read too.
Angst and secrets drive this quick read. A story of love that can survive time and distance. Ryan tries to get on with life and forget when he finds himself abandoned after one day of marriage. Chloe wants a better life for Ryan than she will be able to give him so she takes her secrets with her and runs. I couldn't help but want the best life for both of these deserving characters.
