The beautiful and envied woman luxuriated in a shallow, pink marble pool eight feet square in the center of her vast, high-ceilinged room in the northeast corner of the chateau. This one great room served not only as her private bath, but as her living room and office.
The walls were covered in deep blue felt and crowded with gilt-framed, early Italian religious paintings. Three immense crystal chandeliers, the middle one hanging directly over her bath, illuminated the magnificent painted ceiling that was almost a replica of the one in the Sistine Chapel. Father, son, and the many guardians of Christianity swirled overhead in their kingdom of heaven. Rich blue and gold Fortuny draperies framed the six floor-length windows overlooking the hills and Mediterranean sea in the far distance. In contrast to the opulence of the walls, ceiling, and draperies, the furnishings of the room were simple and contemporary. A lush, deep-pile white carpet covered the floor from wall to wall, broken only in the center by the marble bath, which became an elegant reflecting pool filled with long-finned goldfish when not in use by its owner. The pool separated a mammoth, fur-covered bed in the sleeping end of the room from the living and office area that was dominated by a large stainless steel and glass desk facing a formal arrangement of plain but luxurious couches and chairs covered in white raw silk. The room contained numerous small glass-topped tables on which rested exquisite porcelain vases and objets d'arts of priceless value. Tall palms filled several corners and clustered around the pool and bed to form sybaritic oases for Madame's whims. The room was a mirror of its owner - a combination of sensual beauty and austere business acumen, passion and steel.
This morning a large Art Deco metal screen masked the pool from the office area. Two top gentlemen in the Bardoff French organization stood rigidly facing the screen. They only heard Ava Bardoff's voice in response to their reports, and waited patiently for her orders.
Ava lay back against soft leather cushions in the warm water billowing with scented foams and oils...Her hand toyed unconsciously between the thighs of the young, blond Adonis who knelt naked beside her in the pool, gently massaging her face, shoulders, and breasts with rich, intoxicating creams. His lithe body glistened above her as he worked her pliant skin. A second, darker young god lay facing her on the far edge of the pool playing dreamily with himself as he studied her through half-closed eyes.
