Mizushiro Setona (水城せとな in Japanese, or 水城雪可奈 in Chinese language) is a popular mangaka who started out in the dōjinshi circles.

Her first real dabble in the world of creating manga was in 1985 when she participated in the publication of a dōjinshi. She remained active in the dōjinshi world until her debut in 1993 with the short single "Fuyu ga Owarou Toshiteita" (Winter Was Ending) that ran in Shōgakukan's Puchi Comic magazine.
Though her current drawing style is high on the aesthetic value, her earlier works had less finesse. Regardless of the lesser emphasis on the visual elements in her earlier works, her popularity grew largely due to her unparalleled grasp for storytelling. Her works are noted for their slightly askew plots and deep exploration of the human psyche. Even her lighthearted Shōjo works usually have darker underlying elements. With an incomparable ability to craft stories that puzzle, sadden, assure, pervert, and move the depths of one's heart, she has gained a cult-like following. Her works include shojo, josei, and yaoi, and have been translated into multiple languages, including English, Italian, French and German.

This one... was a little... how to describe it...

I didn't like it as much.

The first two-thirds bothered me.

Reiji regains his memories of his life before becoming a vampire. I have so many problems with that.

Then in the second third, a half-assed romantic rival comes into play. She had a decent backstory and reason for following Dimitri, but it was rushed and only served to make Alice angry. That's all the other girl was for: making Alice rethink her choices. For all of a chapter. That was pretty rushed too.

The last third or so I liked. Dimitri and Alice finally shout it out like I've been wanting them to do for a while. The problem is that this seems to be it. The ending is a bit of a soft ending. More final than most other "To Be Continued" volumes, but not a final enough ending to be the actual ending to the series. The series is on hold, so who knows if we'll ever get more than that.

As an ending, it falls firmly into the "meh" category. If the series comes back, I'm not sure what more there is to do. A part of me wishes that Mizushiro-sensei would've finished in this volume and skipped some of the subplots, but I guess I would've just been complaining about how rushed that was instead if it had happened.

Black Rose Alice 6 completes the first story arc of this title -giving the final decision of Alice as to whether she will propagate with Dimitri or walk away. It's been a long time coming and currently this is the last volume in the series (which is on hiatus). But it is a satisfying ending to the arc all the same.

Story: Dimitri has left the mansion, leaving Alice alone with twins Reiji and Kai. As memories are regained, it becomes obvious that Kai and Reiji had a rivalry over the same girl in the past - one that Kai took too far. Alice, meanwhile, has to deal with Koya's obsession with Azusa and not accepting that Alice is not that person. When Dimitri returns with a bride in tow - just as Alice has decided upon her feelings for him, it looks like the harem will soon be without a queen.

This book is really about Alice's choices - to keep or let Koya go, to stay with Dimitri, to choose Reiji or Kai, or to simply walk away from the life. Of course, it is clear she has feelings for Dimitri but always there is the uncertainty of what he feels for her; or rather, if she is nothing more than a replacement for his beloved Agnieszka.

In all, a moody but fitting end (so far) to the series. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.

~3.5-4/5

In this volume, we get to see what happened to the twins in the past. And it’s pretty bad.

After that, Dimitri comes back, and he brings with him a girl from his past. It’s a learning experience for him and Alice. But mostly it draws closer to the conclusion at the end of the volume, where Alice possibly actually chooses who she wants. Her choice has been pretty obvious from the beginning, to me, but it’s not fully clear whether she goes through with it in this volume or not. It’s possible she didn’t and is waiting for something.

This volumes leaves us hanging, as now the series is on hiatus and who knows when it will be continued. I do appreciate that it ends well, with a somewhat conclusion, with a decision and not many questions. But in the comic at the end, it’s hinting that this is just part one, and that makes me wonder what she plans for part two.

At this point, though, I’m pretty happy with it pausing here.
