If money were about math, none of us would be carrying any debt. The numbers are simple. What’s complicated is what we do with money. We use money to soothe our feelings and buy respect, to show how much we care or how little. We don’t simply earn, save, and spend money: we flirt with it, crave it, and scorn it; we punish and reward ourselves with it. Without realizing it, we give money meaning it doesn’t really have―what former psychiatrist and current business coach David Krueger calls our “money story.” And in the process of playing out that money story, we often sacrifice the most important things in our life: our health, freedom, relationships, and happiness. What is your money story?

YOUR NEW MONEY STORY: The Beliefs, Behaviors, and Brain Science to Rewire for Wealth (Rowman & Littlefield, New York/London)
Krueger states in the introduction, “This book is a rare glimpse into the secret conversation you hold with yourself about the meaning of money in your life.”
This book helps you find out your personal relationship with money and what it all really means in your life. I was intrigued by the title and found myself completely engrossed as I began reading it. There is a definite psychology to money in how we perceive, work, save, spend, and plan for the future with it.
I found this book to be informative, interesting, and entertaining. It’s easy to follow and asks some extremely important questions with quizzes throughout. It’s laid out in three sections, like a three act screenplay: Your Money Story, Plot Twists, and Writing a New Money Story. It also teaches you how to have a game plan, specific goals, and how to make grounded decisions about money.
Find out what your life money story is telling you and what you can do about it. I recommend this book for anyone who is serious about making a money plan and sticking to it. It’s a book that you’ll find yourself referring to over and over.
Wasn’t sure what to expect with this book, because it was a required reading for a grad school course. This was a great book to peer into some of the thoughts, behaviors and emotion about money. Made me stop and think about money and get honest with myself with thoughtful questions/assessments in a helpful way. Really great if you’ll be coaching someone about their finances.
Fascinating insight into the emotion and purposes that we assign to our money that it was never designed to have and, in many cases, is unable to fulfill. Identifying your personal "money story" was particularly helpful as it made more clear the "Why" behind the things that I do with and for money.
Good take on psychology and how we think about money. There's exercises in the book that you need to do throughout the read so better to buy this book so you can write in the book.
Dr. Krueger takes on the challenge of teaching us our history with money. I had NO idea so many old thoughts and lessons were lurking in my brain!
The information he shares is fascinating and informative. The best part for me is his writing style. Anyone can read and understand the information shared.
If you want to change how YOU deal with your money (or lack of it) then this book is for you! I kid you not - you'll learn a lot about what old lessons in life are driving our money skills today.
The lessons I've learned will assist me in changing my personal history with my finances. I've kept myself in a certain income bracket out of comfort and security. With the lessons learned in this book, I am now armed with tools to increase my personal income.
This book is so good that it's now printed in at least 10 other languages. Do yourself a favor and read it!
I didn't realize when I grabbed this from the library that it is about our emotions towards money - not how to make smarter investments and such. So I'm not sure that I can really review it since it's not at all what I was looking for or wanting. However, if you'd like a little help thinking about how you view money and your insecurities about money it may be worth perusing.
Brilliant book on how to start and proceed the money conversation. Money has so much emotional triggers for people, and when you break it down you have the ability to heal this aspect and create abundance in your life. This book is a game changer on how you view money, and how to improve your relationship with it.
decent analysis of the psychology of money. Easily skimmed with a lot of good points/tips on managing personal finances. Very little about investing, just basic advice on how to think about money and be aware of how you feel can affect spending/saving.
it analysis a lot of phenomenas when people face the money, and it also gives a lot of advises to avoid money problem and to improve your mind. But like all the books of this type, it practically is helpless.
