It’s been five years since Jade Darling last laid eyes on her ex-fiancé, New York Times best-selling writer, Ellis Long. Of course he wasn’t an established author back then, just the only man that has ever truly owned Jade’s heart. During the height of their passionate engagement, Jade made a decision that changed their lives forever. A decision she has regretted ever since. Unfinished business and a past seared with regret is what leads Jade to pay an unexpected visit to Ellis’s Brooklyn book signing event with a glimmer of hope that all isn’t lost. For Ellis, Jade was undoubtedly the love of his life. Seeing her again not only brings back memories of the love they used to share, it reminds him of the painful way things ended. Although it was so long ago, Ellis can’t help but wonder if he could allow himself to fall again. They’ve lived a life a part, both becoming successful in their own rights. And yet there’s always been that one missing piece to each of their happiness. Jade and Ellis, along with their charming and funny cast of friends travel through a roller coaster romance that proves love will always find its way back home.
I’m seriously going to have to stop falling in love with these fictional heroes. Have you met Ellis Long? I’ve deprived myself for almost three months, and it was so worth the wait! His character just leaps off the page and captures your heart from the first encounter to the very end.
Jade Darling (How cute!) is a bawse! She’s a graphic designer, living and thriving in Brooklyn, New York, and as the owner and creative mind behind Web Dreams, the only time card she punches is her own. She’s got it going on except one thing: She let The One slip away, and a chance meeting brings them back together, and she can only pray that she gets a second chance to make things right.
Ellis Long is balling in his own right. He’s a bestselling author with legions of fans and everything he could possibly want in life except The One who got away (more like ran away). When he sees Jade for the first time in years, all those feelings he thought were long gone come rushing back faster and stronger than ever. Ellis loves Jade, but can he forget how she couldn’t trust in their love enough to confide in him to get through the hard times.
I freaking loved this story! For a debut novel, That One Missing Piece is beautifully written with countless swoon-worthy, romantic moments. Ellis and Jade will become that couple you cheer for because although somebody did wrong, you feel the love between these two and you genuinely root for their happiness. Carter and Nia next, please. This is a good book , I really like Ellis and Jade . I liked reading their journey , I want more from them , j feel they have more to tell us . I also loved the secondary characters and hope they get their own story .This is a new author , that I will continue to follow because I can't wAit to see what she writes next .
This was a sweet tale with likable characters who were easy to root for. Ellis and Jade's continued attraction for each other was passionate and their misgivings about each other were reasonable. The meat of the book for me were their rocky attempts to work through those challenges. For the most part the struggle was usually grown up and believable. My favorite parts though were often their exchanges with secondary characters. Ms. Alana did a good job of making those peripheral characters and their sometimes rocky but warm relationships with Ellis and Jade heartfelt, uniquely complicated, and interesting. I also enjoyed the author's wit and the comic sense of fun she had with language and uncomfortable or embarrassing situations. All in all this was a good start to a romance series and at some point I'd like to see something else from this author even if it went in a completely different direction.
For this to be her first book, it was an amazing journey! The twists and turns of true love made it believable and not tied into a perfect little bow. In real life, love is not always cut and dry. You fall in love with all the characters and can see how a series can develop. I can't wait for Myles and Alycia's love story to be told. There is even room for a book about Carter and Nia.
It's hard to believe that this is a debut novel by this author. This was a very well written second chance love story. Ellis is a true alpha and in spite of him picking up the pieces and forging ahead with his life, he is once again felled by his love for Jade. Jade was so insecure and I quickly lost patience with her. True love is the winner here. Looking forward to future works by this author.
This book was a great read I can't wait to read future work by the author. I enjoyed all the relationships between the characters and hope to read the story between Nia and Carter soon.
This was a good read, especially for a debut novel. The writing was great and I loved the storyline. Characters were relatable and all had their moments.
This is the best love story ever. No craziness or bullshit just two people finding their way back together. Everyone needs a love like this....HOME. Now, I hope Myles and Lee have a love story as well.
Jade & Ellis are great together once they get past their drama. I have to say I stalled at start in this story. I'm glad that I kept reading!! It turned out better than I imagined.
It was a good story about reuniting with your true love. Jade and Ellis had some growing up to do, but their love transcended time. They had to learn to run to each other instead of away.
This was a great debut novel. I look forward to more from this author.
I loved the wittiness of the main character, Jade, and the dialogue between her and her friends, Myles and Alicia.
I often tire of stories where there was a breakup due to a simple misunderstanding or big secret and it takes years for the couple to find their way back to each other. In this story, although the reason Jade left Ellis could have and probably would have (in real life) been cleared up by one conversation, it's actually pretty understandable why she didn't say anything. After hearing her explanation I kind of got why she bailed out. I just don't agree with the way she did it. Her fear was reasonable and I'm sure relatable for many women.
Ellis was a sweetheart but also somewhat of an alpha male, which I love. I fell in love with him from the start. His love for Jade was impenetrable. That was made very clear throughout. I love that he didn't just accept her explanation and was ready to immediately move on. He embraced his anger and fear of getting involved with her again. That's how it would likely play out in real life.
One thing I didn't care for and hope to see corrected in future works is that the author switches from writing verbs in the past tense to the present tense quite often, which is somewhat confusing.
Also, I think the characters could have been developed a little more. We didn't really get a good description of either. We knew Jade's hair was long, possibly natural. Ellis is tall with bronzed skin. They both are gorgeous. Myles is very good looking. I don't really recall any physical descriptions of Alicia. Although looks shouldn't be the main focus, I do feel it's a central part of character development.
I am hoping we will get to see Myles and Alicia's story next. When it comes to romance novels, there's nothing I love better than a friends-to-lovers story. I'm thinking we might also get another one from Carter and Jade's assistant, Nia. Carter seems like such a good guy, I would love to see him get his own story.
This story was really great but the way it was told could use a little help. It seemed a little rushed but it had some character building. This is my first book by this author but I will be looking for books on her other characters. Ms Alana can only become an even better storyteller
This book was amazing. A story of second chances. Jade and Ellis couldn't move on because they belonged together. I want more from them. I can't wait for Myles and Alycia and Carter and Nia. But for the chance to revisit these characters.
This was a really lovely debut novel from Alida Alana. The characterization was well developed and there were many warm, earthy moments that I very much enjoyed. Old lovers given a second chance at love, Jade and Ellis were both endearing with well-developed chemistry. Altogether an enjoyable read from a new author whom I look forward to reading more from in the future.
Awesome! I loved this story. Jade worked my nerves with the back and forth, but what is meant to be will be. What is for you will not pass you buy. Definitely worth the 1-click and I am so glad I found this author and book!!
This first book by Alida Alana was nicely done. The story was lovely and the characters likeable. Past lovers falling out of love and finding it again is another favorite genre of mine. The story flowed well and characters were nicely developed. A good read.
This is the first story that I have ever read from this author. It held my attention from the first page, which most books do not. The main characters had great chemistry and the side storylines were entertaining, as well. I highly recommend this book.
Awesome read. Fell in love with Jade and Ellis and their possibility of a second chance. Strong and witty characters made this a good read. Will be looking for more from this author.
