Arya n’a de temps que pour une chose : sauver des vies comme chirurgienne. Une relation amoureuse en l’intéresse pas. Sa vie est assez compliquée pour y ajouter des problèmes supplémentaires. De plus, il y a trop de femmes dehors pour s’attacher à une seule.
Patricia voudrait qu’on la voit comme quelque chose de plus qu’une simple mère célibataire. Son fils de sept ans remplit sa vie, mais après avoir laisser derrière elle la relation toxique qu’elle avait son ex-mari, elle aimerait se sentir désirée de nouveau.
Un jour de fête entre copines, une femme sexy et quelques verres d’alcool mettent du désordre dans ses idées de départ. Heureusement, elle ne verra plus cette femme, elles n’ont pas échangées leurs numéros de téléphone et son petit secret et sain et sauf. Au final, Los Angeles est une trop grande pour croiser de nouveau quelqu’un.
Mais la vie est pleine de rebondissements et le destin est capricieux. Aucune des deux ne s’attendait à revoir l’autre, mais l’hospitalisation du fils de Patricia vient changer la donne.
Seront-elles capables d’ignorer l’alchimie entre elles, ou céderont-elles et affronteront-elles ensemble leurs peurs ?

Very Predictable Plot

The plot was very predictable. The verbiage is so simple it feels like children are the intended audience. Glad it was short!

A weird book. The writing seems disjointed in many places, sometimes the story hard to follow. But under the sometimes unusual English, the story is really good, loving and emotional, and the descriptions are beautiful.
Arya and Patricia are lovely people, both insecure because of their pasts, but with each others’ help they are able to move on and be together.

Nice to read

It is a nice book to read, however I was expecting more. It is not deep enough for handling difficult topics. Easy to follow and a bit on the surface with all the challenges and obstacles of the characters.

"The devil is in the details"

It's a lovely book, but there are some details that made the result down to 3.5 stars.

I now know that I should not begin my road in the Medical Romance books by Clara Simons with the Watson Memorial series, but it's not really a problem. Arya is a lovely supporting character in all the books, not just b/c she's not the MC there, but b/c she supports each and every person.

That means I was very interested in the beginning of her love story, and after the Dr. Park book I was looking for something way better. I knew it can't be bad if Arya is the MC.

And this is true. It's an enjoyable, feel-good 3 hours read.

So let's talk about those devils.


It's stated more than once, that Patricia met her ex-husband in college in the second semester (Page 80). It would make her 19-20 years old, AFAIK. She tells that she became a few month later pregnant. Doing some simple math, having a 7 year old son would make her 27-28. But also multiple times she thinks about that as a 38 year old woman, she should not be afraid from her parents. It's also strange reading on page 122 when she thinks about "I might think of Arya as my soul mate if I were twenty years younger. But at my age I know soul mates are just tales for teenagers." I know I should not be surprised in a romance book, probably there were some changes during the edit to make her younger or older, but I could not unseen this.

The other one could be something smaller. At the end of the book they move together ASAP, very lesbian of course, but Trisha has a dog, and Ayra should have a cat, but the cat is never mentioned again. I am wondering what happened to her, and how is she cooping with the golden retriever?

This is such a well written tale of love between two women and a child, it gives me hope for our country.

Cara Ann Simons is quite a wordsmith. This is the second in this series that I have read that has taken my imagination and heart on a sensitive ride through familiar places, like hospital halls, patient rooms and operating rooms with sensitivity and compassion. I am delighted with the characters and the issues covered so gently. I am looking forward to reading another in the series soon.

i like spin-off books from others and this one is no exception. The dramatic life that Patricia experienced is one that is horrible and glad that in this book, one that can only be healed by love. And the ending with the mom coming around was the cherry on top of this cake, whip-cream would be the dad but this is good enough.

Sweet romance

A woman who has no luck with dating men meets a women who is what she really wants but rejects her due to internalised homophobia foisted on her by homophobic parents. She falls in live but takes a hile to realise it's what she wants and needs in a partner. There is an HEA but it doesnt usually end like this im real life but this is a romance novel.
