Since high school, a slew of good press made Taj Maxwell a household name long before he became a superstar. Years later, the tide has turned and the same media that made him is out to break him with the help of his ex-wife, and the looming allegations may cost him a plum position with the league. Dominique Houghton always hoped one day her best friend Taj would be a part of her happily ever after. Her heart broke the day she discovered his girlfriend was expecting his child. Keeping her feelings to herself, Dominique moved on--until she catches his now-ex dishing the dirt on Pro Wives, a reality show that has made his ex a celeb in her own right, and at his expense. Although Taj hurt her years ago, Dominique believes there's more to the story his ex is painting. She decides to investigate the matter... but the sparks that ensue might end up being a little too hot to leave on the cutting room floor.
Tia Kelly is the author of contemporary romance and women's fiction. She is known for her candid way of capturing life's moments, one character at a time.
Love it! This is my kind of story. It was nicely developed. The pace was great. I always enjoy the realism in the stories developed by the author. Which makes it even more enjoyable. The characters were developed nicely as well. Overall it was a very enjoyable book and I definitely recommend it.
My type of story. I love best friends to lovers. TJ and Dominique had a special relationship that a span of ten years being apart did not change. Loved this story but too short.
If is meant to be it will be. This is lesson Dominique and Taj learned overtime. They were friends first and then life happened. It took them a while but the time was finally right.
This was such a sweet story! It definitely kept me interested for the entirety of my weekend. Taj and Dominique's chemistry took a little bit of time for me to detect, but once the story hit it's stride, especially when you saw Taj's ex-wife for who she was, I was rooting for their love the entire time. Definitely a sipping-a-glass-of-wine-and-enjoying-the-sunshine kind of read :)
I didn't want to read this...I looked ahead at the page count and thought that it wouldn't be enough and would surely be lacking something. This story is heartwarming and touching...but I want more...lol.
The story line was a nice one, not overly dramatic but the just the right amount to not be boring. Loved Taj and and Dominique relationship. Though they have known each other for a while I wish we could've gotten to see their relationship develop a little more. It seemed like it was a little rushed. Still think it was a good read and will be looking into more of Ms. Kelly's work.
So, Tia Kelly has done it again! I love a good friends to lovers story, and TJ and Dominique's story was right up my alley.
I wasn't so sure about TJ initially. I loved that he tried to do the right thing, but when Missy started getting out of pocket, I so wanted him to fight back (figuratively, not literally). But I'm glad he didn't (I guess). The whole Pro Wives deal was a trip. It (and Missy) had my blood pressure rising, and reminded me of why I don't watch much reality TV. Those chicks were so, so trifling!
And while I really hate to be one of those fans whining about wishing the story was longer...I really wish the story was longer. I really wanted to see Miss Missy get her ass handed to her. Publicly, and with the cameras rolling. I also wanted to know more about Tori's acceptance of Dominique. Was the scene in Vegas the case? Or was it something else? Oh, and what happened with Rosemarie and Doug?
If you're looking for a good read, don't miss this one. Looking forward to whatever is next!
Tia Kelly delivered another solidly built story about relationships. She eloquently gave us a lovely story about friend's becoming lovers. Taj and Dominique had been the best of friends until the day he dropped the P bomb. They went separate ways for ten years. He went on to marry, have two beautiful daughters and play in the NBA. Dom became a Psychologist working at a local school. Then after ten years of avoiding Taj, Dom reached out, and they were connected again. Taj never realized how much they both cared for one another. Once they were back together, he made it his mission to be together forever. Although his ex had plans to hang on and ruin him, all the while making their children's lives miserable. In the end, her plans failed and Dom and Taj got their HEA because it was in fact, the Right Place and The Right Time for their love to flourish.
Dominique has loved her best friend Taj for years but it's never been the right time to tell him, until now or so she thinks. She has it all planned, tonight is the night, but will this be the right time and right place for them after all. Taj and Dominique's story proves that if it's meant to be, not even time will keep you apart. I loved how when the opportunity presented itself for them to be together, Taj wouldn't let anything stand in his way, not even Dominique, of having her. This was a passionate and sweet romance that proved what they had could stand the test of time. I give it 4 solid stars!
I like this book but as with the books by the author, it always seems like something is missing or you are jut dropped off. Though this has been one of the better books, if not the best, something always seems like something is missing. The introduction always seems like it's really big like you should be at a mountain but when you read it, it's more like a molehill. Maybe the next one will be better.
I really enjoyed this read. Dominique and Taj were lifelong friends, derailed by life and responsibilities that find each other again. The inclusion of current trending drama type reality shows as a major part of the story line was so appropriate, given Taj's profession. I recommend this story to all.
The potential was there, love and sports are my katnip but this was almost aweful. All over the place with no real direction. Superficial and did not really build characters.
This was a cute easy read, of course the ending was predictable, but good. I would have liked an epilogue or a little more at the end,but I'm looking to purchase my next read from this author.
Wrong Time, Right Place was a quick read not only in length but the plot moved at a fast pace as well. From the very start of this book the reader is thrown into a major change happening in the dynamics of the relationship between Dominique and Taj. The beginning scene reads similar to a flashback, except it actually is not written in that way. Fast forward ten years, we find the two friends reacquainting themselves after a hiatus. The story unfolds as Taj and Dominique attempt to move from friends to lovers with several outside factors influencing their relationship.
Where this story was engaging and kept me reading to the end, it felt somewhat rushed and left me wanting to know more about the missing pieces to the puzzle. The writing was good and Melissa’s attempts at fame seemed realistic. I think more background on how Dominique and Taj became friends initially and additional scenes about how they reconnected would have helped solidify their love to make it more plausible. Their reunion was a little too instant without these details in my opinion. Although this was my first time reading a book by Tia Kelly, I will try her again. 3.5 stars
Dominique is the perfect woman even with her scars. She is strong willed and understand children's needs. I just wish there were scenes of Taj and his daughters with Dominique. There also needs to be some more internal turmoil written about Melissa to make the book more interesting.
