Vegan Vamp #3

The Elvis Enigma

Rate this book
Elvis is alive! Except he's gone missing. And he's not exactly Elvis. And perhaps he's not exactly alive. But the man with a personal connection to the King and currently known as Patrick is definitely missing. Mallory won't let the confusing nature of Patrick's background stop her from investigating, not when there's a mystery to solve. And who better to crack a case involving the weird and wondrous than the best (and hungriest) sleuthing vamp around? If she can just keep the mundane police in the dark and her budding romantic feelings for her partner under wraps, then she might have a shot at finding Elvis...Patrick, Patrick-Elvis.

Apparently, this is book 3 in a series. I had no idea, I read it because of the title. I'm a big Elvis fan. But I could tell this book wasn't going to be great and I was right. Very mediocre work. I'm not gonna read any other book from this series. I'm rating it 3 stars just because they mention Elvis's name quite a lot.

The books are getting better. This one was actually goodish and the main character didn’t annoy me as much as the previous books :). I have to say that Bradley is such a quirky character and his interactions with Alec, Mallory and Boone and Star are just hilarious. Solving the mystery of Elvis’ disappearance is going to be a doozy. Between trying to avoid going to jail, being kidnapped, finding time to eat, and avoiding her mom, Mallory sure has a lot on her plate.

Elvis is missing! No, not dead, missing. Ok, so he’s not exactly The Elvis, but close enough. And Mallory won’t let his disappearance rest. When another member of the supernatural community goes missing she’s finally able to convince her motley crew to investigate. She’s determined to solve this mystery before more people disappear. But first she needs to not be arrested for the murder of her former landlady. And maybe not drool over the hot detective in charge. All in a day’s work for the new vamp.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner. Too bad food makes Mallory barf. I totally loved books 1 & 2 and book 3 is just as enjoyable. Mallory is hilarious. She walks the fine line of being just ditzy enough to make this series work. Not enough and it wouldn’t be nearly as much fun; too much and I’d just want to cut her head off. Cate Lawley pulls it off with perfection. The mystery is just twisty enough to keep me guessing, all of the characters are wonderful and fully in the story (no cardboard background props here), and the relationship between Mallory and Alex is so delightfully heart-warming as well as delicious. The will-they-or-won’t-they question progresses just enough in each book to be a believable real-life scenario and leaves me waiting anxiously for it to happen, but also hoping it goes on for at least a few more books because I don’t want them to lose that special spark they have. Think Bones or Moonlighting and you’ll understand what I mean. When you’re looking for some light-hearted and fun entertainment then look no further. This series is wicked awesome for a few hours of escapism. Also note, each book can be read as a standalone, but why would you want to do that?! Go back to the beginning and revel in Mallory’s journey to date.

The first of this series was really enjoyable, but each sequel so far has been a little less enjoyable. That said I still bought the 4th book when I finished this one. I really like the vegan vampire gimmick and want to see where it will go. However, the introduction of another love interest at the end of this book and where I predict the next book will go doesn't give me high hopes.

I love this series so much. The witty banter and budding romance in this book is really well done. A demigod Elvis is just the cherry on the top. I can't wait to read more. Please don't stop writing this series!

3.5 🌟

As I stood in the circle of his arms, my heart hurt for him.

Uuuuuuuugh. I hate the timing of it all. That's what I get for asking for a bit of romance and not specifying with who.
Help I'm not reading a funny cozy mystery to have my heart hurt 😭 When Gabe first (re)-appeared I was like yeaaah you know what let's give our girl a bit of action and see Alex get all jealous and maybe that will nudge him in the right direction but noooooo. Not NOW. I love the poor tragic soul that is Alex so damn much and I know he's not ready ok but I just can't stand by and have him witness Mallory dating someone else right after he did something soul shattering to save her.
We both know you'd say yes in a heartbeat and everything he has done and does scream love for you, honey. At least test the water first, I don't have much hope but give him a chance to act on his feelings, and if he's still not budging, hell you go girl! Have some fun! But not without even trying first, god no, not after his latest proof of devotion 😭. I need to read the next one right this very second because I need to see this wrong righted as fast as possible.

"I know you think I've" - he tipped his head as he considered his words - "dated half of the enhanced population of Austin, but I haven't."
If dated was a euphemism for boffed them senseless...

Oh to be part of the blessed half of the enhanced population of Austin.

"Your true reflection is just" - he shook his head - "it's just you: bright, beautiful."

Elvis Hasn't Left The Room

Mallory is a vibrant character. She seems like she would be fun to be around. Her personality either drives people nuts or totally endears her to them. Or both. Alex seems to fall into the latter category. Does he think of her in a romantic way? She is is confused about her own feelings let alone what she thinks his are. To top it off, Detective Gabe has inserted himself into the romantic conundrum. Will she get together with Alex or possibly Gave (she thinks both are hot) or what??? Mallory and her friends are able to bring the kidnapping mystery to a successful conclusion. Her powers have evolved, however, Alex is over protective of her to the point of putting himself in danger. This series and this book in particular are a delight to read. Mallory's PhD in smartassary and the reactions to her are very entertaining. I anxiously await the next book.

A new case that might have her ending up as one of the casualties.

Stunning. Being at the police station has her heart pounding (well it would if she wasn't a vampire) and meeting Elvis (or more correctly the demigod that is Elvis) has her embarking on the strangest case yet. Who is kidnapping all the strangest members of the supernatural world and why? With her trusty team and faithful hound she vows to find out. Okay she might also be on the list as she cannot be classified as a normal vampire but that is all the more reason to find the person behind it all. Especially when the happiness of a young girl is at stake due to the kidnapping of her mother. To top it off she now has two men in her life that make her non beating heart pitter patter. Wonderful rich storyline with great imagination and dialogue. A simply must read.

Why did Elvis leave the building?

Fresh off another successful case, Mallory hopes for some quiet time. A couple of days are more than enough. With a missing kitsune and a suspicious Elvis impersonator (or the real one?) as a suspect, Alex, Wemberly, Mallory & even people shy Bradley go to check out the show. But Elvis is definitely not in the building. Turns out Elvis is a demigod part of the enhanced Society. Adding to the puzzle is Detective Ruiz showing up still convinced Mallory is withholding information about a string of deaths that included her neighbour, Mrs. A. While Ruiz is totally human, he can see magic. With Star, the retired witch, the gang try to figure out who is overpowering the enhanced and, maybe, using their magic. The bad'un will surprise you. Another satisfying Vegan Vamp story.

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.

5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.

"The Elvis Enigma: A Paranormal Cozy Mystery" (Vegan Vamp Mysteries Book 3) by Cate Lawley is another fun addition to a great series. Mallory Andrews is not the typical vampire, and since she's recently turned she still has her foot firmly in still in the human world. With a human police officer breathing down her neck, she has to tread lightly as she investigates the disappearance of a couple of enhanced people.
Overall, Lawley does it again with this entertaining mystery. It held my interest and left me wanting to read another one.

The Elvis Enigma Review

With a vampire that's not a vampire, an Elvis thats not Elvis, and a dog that's not a dog it's not a surprise that some hinky chaos is bound to happen. And it was a lot of fun figuring out what going on.

As the cases get crazier and I learn more about the supernatural players involved I become more hooked on this series with every book. And as serious as things can get there is still always something to give me a chuckle which I really enjoy. So I would definitely say The Elvis Enigma is recommended.

So this review contains spoilers about the story. So unfortunately this book only got 4* from me. I was hoping during the fight scene i had hopped that there would have been a little bit more of the MC sarcastic-ness but i almost felt the author just sort of rushed it?? IDK i didn't get the same funny vibes as the other books. SPOILER I mean one of my big pet peeves is Alex saves Mellory and hurts himself in the process, but then she accepts a date off the cop? Now im sure the author knows what she is doing but WHY?? i love Alex i hope they end up together!

Murder, and maybe Elvis! This is book 3, and while I did read the previous books, it was a while ago. You absolutely have to read them first. I was a little lost at times because my memory isn’t that great with details. But overall, I was able to understand everything. It’s such a fun concept of a vegan vamp and all her other abnormalities we’re learning. I love the mystery of missing maybe real Elvis. There’s great magic in it. It’s mysterious and magical, and I’m so interested to see where the characters and relationships go.

Come read with me on instagram @booksy.tx.ana

This is the third book in the series. It’s definitely better than the first book, but I didn’t enjoy this one as much as the second book. The characters are starting to grow on me, but the main character is still just as annoying as ever. I don’t understand her train of thought sometimes, and that alone makes it hard to read sometimes. I’m invested in the series though and the other characters. I’m hoping for some character development (Mallory), but I’m not holding my breath. The mystery of the book was a little obvious, but it was interesting to watch the investigation unfold.

Is Elvis in the building? Maybe or maybe not in this fun twist on the Elvis is alive myth. The humor from Mallory is wonderful and of course we love Alex! As we get to know all the familiar characters a bit better and meet a few more;), they also lead us another wonderful adventure with the King, maybe!! I said it before and will say it again I LOVE this series! It's such a fun twist on the genre and can be read by any reader. I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Star is back to help them. Detective this asks her for a date and Mallory gets to keep boone. Great story as Mallory discovers feelings for Alex.

The Elvis Enigma :A Paranormal Cozy Mystery (Vegan Vamp Mysteries Book)

This is the third book I have read about the Vegan Vampire, and I was pleasantly surprised by how well the were written. Kept my interest on all three books. The first one was free, but I bought the next two to see how the author kept the series going.

Is he Elvis or someone else?

The answer to that question and others lie in these pages and it is a fun trip. Mallory is the unusual vampire who keeps increasing her inner circle, to the amazement of several of the Society's members. However, each crime is solved and we learn more about Mallory and Alex all the time.

Seriously Fantastic

When Mallory isn't telling her sword to please have full edges so she can beat the crap out of someone instead of cut off their head you have to laugh when the sword argues! Or when Bradley calmly tells Alex and Mallory they are just like a tv couple. All of this while chasing after bad guys and being a little chased. Awesome as always!

Lmao!

What happens when you put Elvis into the mix, then he goes missing.......A fab book!

Our Vegan vamp is really hitting her sleuthing stride.

Things take a turn for the worse as enhanced folks start to disappear.....like Elvis 😉

Love all the characters in this series, even Anton 😵😯😁

Elvis gets kidnapped. He may or may not be the real Elvis. Or a figment created by the the fans of the real Elvis. Or something like that. Mallory continues to build her crew to find the kidnappers before it is too late. This book starts hinting at a bigger plot out there that will probably start building through the rest of the series.

Enjoyable. An easy listen while you're doing other things. I did miss a couple small details but it didn't affect my enjoyment of the story. I personally felt the title wasn't as accurate of a title as I felt like the kitsune was a bigger part of the story. I look forward to reading the other books in the series, if I can get my hands on them.

Elvis has been kidnapped! The King became a demigod when he died and our vegan vampire heroine finds out he's been taken. I enjoyed this particular volume and thought it worked well. I enjoyed this as another adventure of our sword-wielding heroine. Mallory is always entertaining and it's nice to see her and Alex get closer but the star is definitely her intelligent dog.

This series is getting better and better. I just love Mallory and Alex's banter so much because they never failed to humor me. The adventures that the characters embark in will keep at the edge of your seat until the last page. If you love the Chicagoland Vampire series, you will love this series.
