It takes more than just brains, hard work, and the correct protocol for exchanging business cards to get ahead in business or in life. This book is about that additional, hidden element, what Dr. Rob Yeung calls "Emotional Intelligence," or "EQ."
This books will help you get to know your own emotions, learn to control them, and become self-directed, resilient, and success-oriented. Emotional Intelligence is about finding out what makes other people tick, and how you can use that knowledge to help yourself on both a small-scale ( interpersonal savvy ) and a large scale ( organizational savvy ).
This book fills in the space between hard work and a good handshake.
This was my first book on the subject. The book gives the framework for better understanding of oneself, one’s relationships with colleagues, and the tools to improve those. For example, it gives an interesting comparison of how others see us vs. how we believe they see us. Overall, it was an interesting reading, and I guess I may come back to the book in a couple years.
In terms of emotion related research, this was the simplest book I ever read. The author Rob Yeung describes people and emotion in a working environment. It's all about chemistry, if I had a coach I want this coach. If I wanted to be a coach, I'd be this kind. He explains it in the way I wanted to see it, evaluate and pin-point in a very simple language which are reader-friendly. When your thoughts are tangled with your feelings, you need to read this. He'll present a problem solving layout for you to follow through.
