This book was what made me like reading in the first place. I hated it. And after this book I started reading like crazy. I was eleven or twelve at the time. if you know someone who doesn't like reading get them to read this or is even just in love with mermaids. :)

Danya and Kallie are twin sisters. Kallie always has her head in the clouds, and Danya is down-to-earth. One night, a mermaid appears in Kallie’s room, begging for her and her sister’s help. Danya believes there is no such thing as mermaids… until she and Kallie suddenly find themselves in the world of Ayralon.
The Mermaid Secret was the very first book I had ever bought on my own. When I was in elementary school, my school would have book fairs to raise money for the school. My parents gave me some pocket change to buy a book at school (and I could barely understand how money worked). I was so excited. Here I was, a little seven-year-old and I could finally buy something on my own! The beautiful cover of The Mermaid Secret captivated my attention.
I first read this book when I was seven years old, so when I picked up this book again sixteen years later, I didn’t remember anything about the story. So, I read it as if I were reading it for the first time. The Mermaid’s Secret is a short children’s novel with pictures in every chapter. It is perfect for elementary school children. Each chapter is bite-sized, and the language is not too difficult for a young reader.
I would recommend The Mermaid Secret to children going through a “mermaid phase.”

This was our bedtime story--it lasted all of two nights!! My kids WOULD NOT let me put it down! :) They LOVED it! and while there isn't much as far as content (a few problems are presented, but absolutely NOTHING is resolved...thus there's an entire series ahead of you) it is perfect for little girls who are huge fans of all things magic, fantasy and mermaids!

Refreshing break from the Rainbow Magic fairies, which is a staple in this house with 2 little girls. Love that the author is Canadian.
