As a fan of the Barnett Bulldogs series, I couldn't wait for this book to release! The author did a fantastic job of piquing my interest about Liam Garrison in Friend Zoned, and I eagerly looked forward to reading his story. I suspected it would run much deeper than the ink on his body, and I was right.
From a distance, Liam seems to have it all-looks, athleticism, good grades, and a never-ending line of girls willing to warm his bed. What no one sees, however, is the staggering weight of responsibility he carries on his broad shoulders. His family's dire financial situation is a secret he keeps a tight lid on while focusing on preparing for the upcoming NFL draft. All he has to do is sign with a team to keep a roof over their heads after his father's latest lapse in judgment threatens to put them into foreclosure.
While blowing off steam with teammates at a campus watering hole, a beautiful woman catches his attention. Intrigued by the fact that she seems out of place in the dive bar, he unleashes his charm (and dimples) to persuade her to go home with him.
Gia Monroe never expected to hook up with anyone when she agreed to watch her younger brother's band perform at a dingy bar she'd normally never set foot in. Still recovering from the breakup with her boyfriend of three years, she decides to throw caution to the wind and allow herself one night of much-needed pleasure with the tatted, muscular bad boy even though he's still a college student and she's pushing thirty. What follows is the kind of rambunctious, passionate sex she never experienced with her ex. Although part of her wants a repeat performance, she clings to the anonymity they agreed on beforehand and sneaks away before Liam awakes the following morning.
It isn't long before fate intervenes when Liam and a teammate find themselves in Gia's second-grade classroom to speak to her students about the importance of sports and teamwork. He's delighted to see the woman he can't get out of his mind despite his best efforts. She, on the other hand, is mortified. When he asks to see her again, she sticks to her guns and turns him down, citing both their age difference and prior agreement to limit their interaction to a one-night stand.
In a series of romantic and thoughtful gestures, Liam convinces Gia to go out on a date with him. She's still hung up on the age gap between them, but can't deny their chemistry. In the days that follow, she learns that age truly is nothing but a number as she witnesses firsthand how Liam's responsibilities are anything but boyish or childlike. Her respect grows, as do her feelings for the young man who'll do everything he can to keep his family safe and sound.
As with the first two books in the series, Ms. Sucevic's writing painted a vivid picture of each scene that enabled me to become immersed in the story. Her talent is boundless and becomes more evident with each new book she releases. If you haven't already read King of Campus and Friend Zoned, I highly suggest you do it as both stories are unique and satisfying. I think we can expect many more stories from this prolific author.
