I nabbed this from a Little Free Library around Christmas time. And it's just a dorky as you'd think it is. Moose is the stereotypical dumb character where the Bear is the straight man. It was cute and simple. I liked the art a lot. But this is not one I'll keep. I'll re-donate this one. :)

Boris the Bear introduces Morris the Moose to Christmas. Morris wonders if Christmas will play with them when it comes. He is certain that Santa will go to sleep when he comes late at night, and then he won't want to play either. To Morris, stockings are hung over the fireplace to dry, so they'll be nice and warm when Santa comes to put them on. Boris tries to disabuse Morris of all his false ideas. He takes him to see Santa. Morris thinks he is a bird because he flies through the sky. Then Morris sees Santa's white feathers. Boris patiently tells Morris that Santa is not a bird, and that his reindeer fly not Santa. Of course, Morris thinks that the deer should be called snowdeer. Morris asks Santa for lots of candy. Bill and Laura take Boris and Morris home with them. They let him hang up two stockings. Boris and Morris sleep with the children in front of the fireplace. In the morning, their stockings are filled with candy. Boris and Morris each get a pair of "hearmuffs". Later Morris pulls Bill, Laura, and Boris on the children's new sled. They sing their own version of Jingle Bells, "Dashing through the snow in a one-moose open sleigh."

This was one of my favourites when I was much younger, so I wanted it to be included in this year's holiday reading. It was still funny to me, though from some different perspectives. I barely have any quibbles with it. As well, I realize that it is a good reminder of how odd traditions can seem to outsiders.

First Santa came to town. There was a moose and a bear in the story. In the beginning they saw toy children. The moose and the bear sat on Santa's lap. For Christmas they got candy. The moose took the children sleddin.

Morris and Boris are childhood favorites and I didn't know about this one until I made a pilgrimage to the library for a huge pile of Christmas books. We laughed and laughed every time.

cute book... covers one misunderstanding words because he thinks it sounds like something else, and is funny...
