A wonderful novella of a Wing-walker in the 1920s. Back in the time where women were restrained from attempting a career, Gloria persisted in pursuing what she loved to do, despite harassment and lies of the men who wanted to "use" her.
The story was very interesting about a brave woman doing a daring job against the social norms of the era.
I was provided with a copy of the book by the author. I enjoyed the book, this review is my honest opinion, and I highly recommend this book for both adults and young girls to want to learn of women in the past.

“The Kind of Story I Wish I Had Written”

Gloria Richards, an orphan who has chosen a life of danger and excitement, works as a barnstorming wing-walker to earn her living. When Buzz Greenwood, her last pilot, crashes the Silver Lining, on her day off, it leaves her without a job. She hasn’t collected her last paycheck, but Buzz left a wife and twin daughters, and they would need the money. She can either go back to singing at the mob run local dive in Kitty Hawk, or get a job with ex-war ace, Rand Maitland.

Maitland is trying to make it on his own, without his family’s money, using his government pension he received for a war injury he doesn’t want anyone to know about. To be sure, he doesn’t have enough money to pay for a wing-walker, but Gloria appears to twist him around her fingers when she’s near. He eventually comes around to her way of thinking when he learns she can also work miracles with a plane’s engine, as well as his heart.

Okay, this is the kind of story I wish I had written. It’s set in the period I love, the early 20th century, 1925 to be exact, just seven years after WWI, and features bi-planes. Barnstorming is a plot that should appeal to all action lovers, and this has a little of everything: mobsters, Jenny bi-planes, an injured war ace, and a beautiful girl who is not afraid of danger. The author is a Christian. Her writing is topnotch without preaching, and the story moves quickly and smoothly, and I loved it. If I have a complaint, it’s that we don’t really have a scene of Gloria performing on the wing during a stunt. I think such a scene would have added a tense moment more frightening than the confrontation with the mobsters. If that wasn’t enough for readers, just look at that great cover, it’s what attracted me to this author, and I’m glad it did. Highly recommended.

Gloria is out of work. She used to have a job as a wing walker for a air trick pilot - only he died in a plane crash She was owed back wages that she would never get. She requests a similar job with another pilot, but although his family is wealthy, he is estranged and has few cash assets either. She is starving, and soon to be homeless with no money coming in. She needs to find a job and get paid - like yesterday.

He has plans to be the first pilot to cross the Atlantic on a solo flight. Together, they support each other in moving their endeavors forward.

This is a cute novella so it's a quick read. The characters use lots of phrases that were popular in the roaring 20's - some that we are still using today. I got a kick out of reading them, interspersed throughout the book.
I recommend this book for young adults and older.

I received a copy of this book from the author. The review is my honest opinion.

Gloria Richards is an orphan. With no family she needs to work to pay for rent and food. She's a daredevil and does wing walking to make her living. She also performed in a local speakeasy in Kill Devil Hills, NC, but the owner tried to exploit her so she left, never to return. Thus making an enemy out of him. When her current pilot dies in a plane crash, she begins looking for a new pilot to work with. That's when she meets Rand Maitland a former military pilot. She proposes performing with him as her pilot. At first he's resistant, but eventually they make a deal. That's when both of their lives change.
I really enjoyed this book. I've been to Kill Devil Hills and can clearly imagine where this book takes place.

Daredevils by Anne Greene was a a well written, short, easy to read and entertaining story set in the 1920’s centered around a wing-walking flapper and daredevil barnstormer who falls in love with wing-walker Gloria. The characters were well created, relatable and likable. At times I felt like I was right there living in the moment with them. I’ve read several books by this author and have never been disappointed. This novella was no exception and I rated it a well-deserved five. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author and these opinions are strictly my own.

This book is exciting and full of surprises! Gloria is an amazing character! She is talented and a quick thinker. Not only is she an extraordinary wing-walker, but she is also talented in other ways. Rand is adorable! He's a natural protector and provider. Their romance is sweet!

A very cute little novella about stunt flying in the 1920s. The characters were well written, right down to the dog. The story was reminiscent of the re-runs of old newsreels I saw as a kid in theatres. It was a fast, very cute and pleasant read.
