This Aircraft Fact File uses the same criterion as its predecessor RAF Fighters Part 1, that the aircraft described should have seen operational service during World War II, or reached the stage of flight testing in 1945. This Fact File covers the great wartime dynasty of fighter aircraft from Hawker, the Fury Monoplane, Hotspur, Hurricane, Tornado and the Typhoon which made its name as a ground attack aircraft. The elegant fighters of Martin-Baker are also covered, the MB-3 and the MB-5 which was perhaps the definitive high-performance piston-engined fighter, a milestone marking the end of an era.

Published in 1979, 'RAF Fighters Part 2' is another in the 'Aircraft Fact Files' published by Macdonald and Jane's. This volume is mainly devoted to Hawker types such as the Hurricane, Tornado, Typhoon and Tempest so I found it really interesting. I have read a lot of books about the Hurricane, but not many on the others so I learned a lot about the subject, or at least enough to make me look further afield as these books are so short.
