This was my first time reading Lesanda Moore's story which I got during this month's Black Readers Appreciation Event held earlier in November.
At 52 pages, this cute Christmas romance with Spirit and Jerell goes rather quickly but it is fleshed out enough so readers don't feel cheated. If I'm being honest, I would have loved to read another three or four chapters more about Spirit and Jerell.
The pair meet when Spirit accepts her room mate's Tonya's invitation to spend Christmas with her family. Spirit didn't want to go to her parents' house following her break up with her boyfriend and Tonya, Jerell's sister didn't want her to be alone.
Jerell, who spends a lot of time on the road as a result of his photography career, has sworn off relationships after the last one ended in a broken engagement and left him with some hefty bills.
Neither of them are looking for love but it finds them. I'm all for pursuing a connection when it's there to see how far it can go. I was glad that both of them were willing to step out from under the cloud of failed relationships which takes courage.
A Little Holiday Spirit has warmth and lots of banter especially between the parents. It's about family, being together for the holiday, games, and food, things that lots of families look forward to around holidays.
