Trapped in self-imposed exile, Will Slater prepares for the fight of his life.
Two months ago, he challenged the Director of the CIA to war, and it’s been radio silence since. Unable to return to the family he loves, he steels himself for the first strike, which D/CIA Jack Raynor delivers in the unlikeliest of forms.
Then it’s all-out carnage in dreary Iowa.
But in the heat of battle, whispers make their way to Slater’s ears, rumours of an all-powerful puppet master. He hears a “The Golden One,” the name of a faceless serpent who shapes the country from the shadows. Decades ago, the man found two young prodigies, and with King and Slater none the wiser, he gave their careers the green light. Their storied lives have been his entertainment, and he’s now tired of playing with his toys.
He wants it finished.
Slater senses a crossroads, a final enemy to slay, to bring an end to the violence that’s plagued his existence. To have a chance, he must do what he swore he never bring Jason King back into the fray.
One last time…
Praise for Matt

Only the author know the answer. All I can add is that this has been an outstanding series to read. A series I have awarded each and ever book in it 5 Stars.
Hopefully, at least one individual will be influenced by my statement and give the series a try.
Thank you Matt Rogers for 16 books of fantastic reading, and that doesn’t count the “Spinoffs”.
One “complaint”, if that's the right word, is that the spelling of certain words reflects the author rather than the characters. For example, “tire” wouldn't be spelt as “tyre” by an American. But that's not a serious problem, it just gives the context a jolt.
From the start, King and Slater have been captivating reading. This series is Reacher x 2. Emotionally invested in the characters, I was brought to tears reading this climatic ending. Kudos to Matt Rogers for bringing the stories to life. I would recommend to everyone looking for a great read !
What a great ending to a great series. I thoroughly enjoyed reading everyone of the books in these series over the past year and believe I am a better person for it.
Fantastic series, all 5 star books! Gutted it’s over .. Jason King & Will Slater are most definitely two off the best characters ever created! Am very much looking forward to the new series And will reread this series & Jason& Will’a stand-alone books definitely sometime in the future.
This entire series has been a roller coaster ride. The ups and downs experienced by the characters are overcome only by their incredible abilities. I have loved watching their personalities evolve. I am saddened by the end but it was quite in character. Really enjoyed the whole series and now looking forward to the next chapter.
I have loved these books. The solo adventures were great, but these books with Will and Jason side by have been simply amazing. Fantastic stories, reality stretched each time but not in a way to make the story any less real - less believable.
The final King and Slater was an amazing tour de force ! The finale was brilliant and Slater and King ended in a way they would love. I’m sorry that their adventures are over and I have loved every story !
Don't write a whole lot of reviews- but this book.. ?
Wow.
You know how you cried when you saw Ol Yeller die (yeah, I'm dating myself)? I had tears in the last two chapters... and I KNOW I'm reading a story.
Powerful stuff.
The characters really have developed over the past couple years, all of them. I'm super impressed by Matt Rogers writing and always look to see when his next book is coming out.
One suggestion, try to read them in something approaching order 1-16. Although they stand well individually, they do read better in order.
I rarely give 5* and in truth, the majority in the series I have only given 4*, but this deserved 5, purely because the series as whole deserves it Sad to think that there will be no more slater and king, although the possibility of a young slater exists and he has the backing of some serious support For anyone looking for a high octane, explosive series, look no further. Just remember...... Read the solo books first
Amazing! I have read every book Matt Rogers has written and this one was spectacular. Non stop action and a great way to wrap up the series. Although, I must admit, that I am fuming inside that this is the conclusion. King and Slater are my all time favorite characters and I am broken knowing that it ends here. Well done with both these characters, in all of their novels, and I'm looking forward to see what Tyrell can do. Thank you for a great ride!
I read every book in the series. Each King and Slater book in the series was a thriller. Fast paced. Excellent writing. I am a sucker for a happy ending but the end of this series was fitting. Few tears as I followed this series from the beginning . Wouldn't have passed up reading these for anything.
I have filled this duo from beginning to this end. I love these characters, their strength s and weaknesses, their vulnerability and humanity. I literally cried at the death of Slater. I understood it, but it broke my heart. What an awesome author, plot development is second to none. I will miss King and Slater and look forward to Tyrell as he grows and develops
Through every book in the Jason King and Will Slater series I have been endlessly entertained and eagerly awaited the next, and I have never been disappointed.
Heroes was the best of the best and though the ending was gut wrenching, I eagerly look forward to a new beginning. Kudos Matt, what a great ride!
At long last this series comes to an end but definitely not quietly. The action is non-stop and keeps building to an ending that grabs you completely. I've only known a few authors that could move my emotions like I've just been moved. Incredible writing and I thank them.
Matt did not disappoint in this final chapter for King and Slater. I don’t think it could’ve been better. An amazing series of 2 titans laying it all on the line for the sake of their loved ones. The tears were unavoidable. Thank you Matt, I look forward to what comes next.
Amazing to read. I wish it could have ended another way. I knew one of them wasn't going to make it. I'm glad they won. Deadly fight. Thank you Matt Rogers for bringing these awesome books. The ending was sad. This taught me that things are not always what you think.
I have read every single King and Slater book. Even all the shorts. What an ending. I won't spoil it, but this is how you end a series properly. Thanks for all the wild rides Mr. Rogers...so far.
Absolutely brilliant! I was sobbing like a baby at the end (It's only a ruddy BOOK!) It was the most powerful ending to a book I have read in years. You felt as if you were standing there watching it happen, stunningly well written and thoroughly recommended reading. DO however read all the others preferably in sequence that's probably why it was so bloody good!
He saved the best for last. Well done. To fully enjoy this book, however, you need some context so reading most of the previous books will help you understand the mindset of all the characters
Bummed out this is the series finally...book was amazing and emotional rollercoaster...but a fitting ending! Rarely does a series wrap up so we'll yet still surprise you.
Kept me totally involved and sad to see the team split but can’t wait for the new series to start with the young generation taking over from the father.
