GHISLAIN RETURNS: "The Last Dog"

Rate this book
This, the third and final book in the series, will complete the Saga of Ghislain d'Aboux. He was born in the year 1565 inside a tiny stone cottage, once owned by Henri II, King of Navarre. Henri had the place built in the summer of 1539 near the Cirque de Gavarnie as a sort of getaway for himself, his wife, Marguerite de Navarre, and their ten-year-old baby girl, Jeanne. Sixteen years later, Jeanne d'Albret became the queen regent of Navarre. She was the mother of Henri de Bourbon, who would become not just the King of Navarre, but eventually Henri IV, the King of France.
So, what is the connection between Ghislain, the son of a poor sheepherder, and all these Kings and Queens? You'll have to read the first book, GHISLAIN AND TRAHAEARN, to find out.
Then the second book details Ghislain's marriage to a Welsh girl named Branwen, which resulted in the birth of their daughter, Morgan.
Trahaearn was Ghislain's dog in book one. Raimbaut was his dog in book two. You will discover that 'dogs' play a vital role in the story starting throughout the series.
N'dakinna is what the indigenous people called the area we now call Maine and parts of New Hampshire USA. Ghislain goes there on several occasions. In my debut novel, you will read all about his many adventures over there, before being rescued and brought back to Wales.
GHISLAIN RETURNS, "The Last Dog" finds him returning to the land of the Penobscot, the Abenaki, Kennebec, and others. He brings his daughter with him, along with all his closest friends, including a Scottish knife seller, a French coachman, and a bandit who had turned his life around.
There are several dogs in book three, from Scottish Deerhounds to Pyrenean Mastiffs. One will become 'the last dog' in that this dog will be Ghislain's last.

Well what can I say but I loved Ghislain Returns the third Book in the series as much as the first two, if you love adventures then this is a must read, the characters come to life and you come to know them like family. There's good times and sad times peaceful times and dangerous times. You'll fall in love with the lovable dogs in the series and the love and care Ghislain gives them, You will travel with Ghislain and his family and friends to places you've most likely never been too, so I recommend you get the books settle back and have yourself a great adventure and enjoy.
Thanks Larry K. Landau for a great read

Thank you Larry

I just finished Ghislain Returns The Last Dog and much like the other two books I was thoroughly entertained... The author made you respect and admire this strong man who was a simple man of principle and who truly respected others. To see his life played out in about 1200 pages (three books) made me feel good and I yearned to see the places described as I read. The author is a personal friend and a simple person himself but you could sense the warmth, empathy and compassion Larry feels for others. Its a great read and I'm pleased to give it 5 stars...thanks again

The last dog

Such an enjoyable easy read in spite of some of the names of people and places. The author paints a good picture describing the characters and the landscape making it feel like you're there. I enjoyed all three of his books and would certainly read anything else he writes.

Ghislain Returns: The Last Dog” is the kind of finale that doesn’t just end a saga—it deepens it. Larry K. Landau threads history, wilderness, and devotion together with a storyteller’s quiet confidence, giving us a hero shaped as much by loyalty as by legacy. From the shadow of French royalty to the sacred lands of N’dakinna, this final chapter feels both epic and intimate. And the dogs, oh, the dogs, carry the soul of the story in a way only true companions can. A beautiful, earthy, heartfelt conclusion to a journey that lingers long after the last page.
