“I think Susan has a real gift for conveying the warmth and humour in her characters and reflecting the reality of people’s lives.”
Pregnant Louisa is just getting back on track when life throws her another curveball. Now, it’s not a case of how she’ll get through her to-do lists but how she’ll manage being a mum again. No one seems to understand. How will she run her company, be partner in a new venture, look after her three kids and handle a newborn? And why does everyone think this will be easy? Except her. All Louisa wants is to be a good mum, wife, friend, sister and daughter, and have a bit of time left for herself, but sometimes that’s too big an ask. Can she find the support she needs, or will she forever be pulled in too many directions, always at the mercy of her to-do lists?
“Great book couldn't put it down, didn't want it to end. Love this author’s writing style . Pure enjoyment to read.”
“This was a well-written and engaging story of the multiple demands on a working mom’s time, and I could fully relate and smile along in understanding.”
Susan Buchanan lives in Central Scotland with her husband and their two children. She is the author of 12 novels: A Taste of Christmas Spirit, You Can't Hurry Love, The Leap Year Proposal, A Little Christmas Spirit, Just One Day - Winter, Just One Day - Spring, Just One Day - Summer, Just One Day - Autumn, Return of the Christmas Spirit, The Christmas Spirit, The Dating Game and Sign of the Times. 5.
Susan is also a proofreader and editor and when not working, writing or caring for her two delightful cherubs, loves reading, the theatre, quiz shows and eating out - not necessarily in that order!
I couldn't initially decide whether to give it 2 stars or 3, but ended up giving it 3 because I did read to the end. *then I wrote this review and realised it's really more of a 2 stars so changed it!*
It probably would have helped with this book if I'd known there were several books in the series before this book! But it was still easy enough to follow the story, just missed a bit of the background I guess.
Not much seemed to happen, but then lots of random things happened as if to make the book more interesting but they didn't feel natural/ real if that makes sense?
And the fact that the main character carried the entire mental load for her family and did pretty much everything for the family, worked running a business AND was pregnant with twins, when she had a husband too, really irritated me tbh.
The final straw being when her waters break towards the end of her pregnancy and she tells her husband to stay at the party they're at whilst a friend takes her to hospital!! I mean, how unbelievably ridiculous.
This has been a lovely series and book 4 is a fitting finale. Louisa is utterly relatable with her endless to do lists and no free time. With twins on he way she worries about how she will cope as a mum of five - not something she ever anticipated. While thing are going better with her husband, there are issues among her group of friends and a devastating blow from her sister. Really enjoyable and can thoroughly recommend.
I have loved this series following Louisa, her family and friends throughout the seasons and I am going to miss them. Louisa is now pregnant with twins and her to do lists seem never ending ( I do love a list), so will life run smoothly or will it be a rollercoaster of a ride. I laughed and shed a couple of tears as I said goodbye to Louisa and her lists, a beautiful and fitting ending to a fabulous series.
In this final instalment in Louisa's story, you follow her through the ups and downs of her pregnancy. Her to do lists get longer, but so do her moments of self-doubt as to how she will cope with twins. All the amusing bits of family life are portrayed and Louisa's attempts to juggle all the competing aspects of her life pushes her to the edge. What keeps her going is the love and help she gets from her family and friends. What you realise about Louisa is that she gives back to her friends and neighbours and does not hesitate to help out. She is such a warm and human character and seems so down to earth at times, despite the swanky hotels she gets to work in. With a relatable central character, you find her story to be quite believable which adds to the enjoyment. There is humour too, especially from her offspring and the descriptions of the Christmas shows and festivities will make you smile. This is a fun, entertaining read and I was quite sad to leave the family at the end of the story. In short: love, humour and family life. Thanks to the author for a copy of the book
Just One Day - Autumn by Susan Buchanan Louisa is just getting back on track when life throws her another curveball; she is expecting a baby. No one seems to comprehend how she will run her company, be a partner in a new venture, look after her three kids and handle a newborn. And why does everyone believe this will be easy? All Louisa wants is to be a good mum, wife, friend, sister and daughter and have a bit of time left for herself. Louisa returns in this final instalment of the family Halliday's story. You follow her through her pregnancy and her never-ending to-do lists. Louisa is a character that I would expect all mothers to relate to in one way or another, as her story is so realistic. This family-orientated story is down-to-earth, full of love, laughter and tenderness. The whole series has been a joy to read, and I look forward to seeing what Susan has planned for us next. I want to thank the publishers, author Susan Buchanan and Rachel's Random Resources, for a copy to read and review.
Another season, another avalanche of curveballs Just when Louisa thought everything was getting back on track, she not only is pregnant now, but pregnant with twins… One new baby isn’t easy, but now that there are two on the way, Louisa worries how she can keep all the balls juggling up in the air without disappointing or letting someone down. Will she be able to run her company, be a partner in a new venture, be a good friend, a loving wife and a doting mother of five children with their own needs? With her kind and helping character, will she find the much needed support or will she find herself pulled in different directions? With each new season, I am amazed by Lou, not only for her strength and her kind character but especially by her ‘realness’… Even in this book, you wouldn’t think it would be possible everything Lou is going through, yet she somehow manages to get a hold on everything. I would have thought that in this last book of the wonderful series, Lou would turn to be a little bit more ‘selfish’ as she has to think about her babies. Yet her kind nature and warm heart won’t allow her to just to less. She helps out whenever she cans, no matter who is asking, even goes beyond for those in need and also keeps showering her family and friends with all the love she has. But I also liked somehow how Lou is struggling even more in this books. Not that I am an evil person, wanting people to suffer! But seeing all the doubts Lou has, all the problems she has to face, makes her feel just like one of us. Life is not always a walk in the park, on the contrary. Life is filled with curveballs and lemons, only letting us see the strength we didn’t we have. But also showing us that no matter what is happening in our lives, we have a group of people who love us, and support us no matter what. I also admired how Lou understood that sometimes her reasoning was not righteous and she felt guilty about her feelings. Blaming it on the hormones, the thoughts she sometimes had, was not the Lou we all know and love. But also gave u a better understanding how being pregnant can mess with our minds. There are so many lovely, heart – warming moments in this book, like the moments where Ronnie shows Lou how supportive and protective he can be, the moments where Lou and her friends show the meaning of real friendship, and the moments where Lou is talking to her unborn babies, already loving them unconditionally even if they will turn her whole world around. But there were also funny moments, just anytime Aria is present, or a certain thing happening in the car (yes I know, it shouldn’t be something to laugh about, but I found it funny 😊). Obviously there were also the uglier moments, like people not knowing their place, or behaving improper, or how our beloved friends have to fight against bureaucracy. On a total personal level, I wished there would be more room for one character that completely stole my heart… Not that I am biased that this lovely little girl has the same name and written like it should be, even the nickname was flawless! 😊! But no matter how short her time in this book was, and even if she would have a total different name, my heart broke when reading what her tale of woo was and I wished for her all the best with her new life… I loved to be part again of Lou and her sweet family, paws included. This was a wonderful finish of a marvellous series. And while I am sad to say goodbye (for now) to my friends, it was a joy to be on this journey with Lou…
At first when I started reading this 4th book about Louisa, I thought that I had had enough of Louisa and her stories and then BAM Susan hit me from all sides! I was smiling, laughing and even crying.
This book is once again a story about Louisa and her life, which at times seems quite ordinary and one I wouldn't mind living myself. Her parents are amazing! Seriously! She has lovely sisters and great friends and even her husband seems to be stepping up in this 4th book. However, once the drama hits, and it even gets said, this could only happen to Louisa, I am so thankful not to be living her life. I don't think I could handle it all and accompanying emotions based on how emotional I got just reading about everything happening to or around Louisa. The fact that I have such strong feelings while reading this story says it all! It is a great book and I highly recommend you read all 4 books in this series, in order!
I enjoyed catching up with Louisa and her family. For me I found this an easier read as I had read the previous one in the series. I found Louisa really tuned into the needs of others and she didn’t annoy me at all this time round! I also found some of her to do lists quite funny. For me this felt like it had a real community and family feel with everyone looking out for each other. The relationships between all the different characters was well described and I could imagine Louisa rolling her eyes when it came to her mother in law! The connection that the Halliday family have with Martha next door was just so touching. Lots of different events were covered but they all flowed into each other and were dealt with sensitively.
Louisa is pregnant again and with her massive to-do lists she is not sure how she'll cope and with three kids already this makes having twins even more daunting. But Louisa loves all her kids and faces the challenges like a champ.
I loved the neighbourly sense of community in this story everyone looks out for each other and I particularly liked Louisa's friendship with her neighbour Martha.
This is the first book I have read by this author and it won't be my last. This book is part of a series but can be read as a standalone.
It was a joy to read and is very character driven and I loved how it engages you to be a part of the characters relationships and the development of the relationship. Overall a fun lighthearted joyous read.
I have to say good bye to friends. I am not happy. How I have loved following the ups and downs of Louisa Halliday and her family. I have laughed and cried and laughed and cried some more as I have lived with this family through so many of life’s curveballs with them.
Will Louisa ever let go of, or even refine, her list making? Each chapter of this series starts with one of her lists. It is a reminder of our own lives, of how busy they can get. And Louisa’s life certainly gets busy! Just One Day Autumn completes our year with the Hallidays, and I for one, will miss them all. The ending was one I had not expected, Susan the author is very fond of springing surprises on her readers. Which is why I enjoy her books so much.
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading all the books in this series, but this one in particular! Susan Buchanan's writing is warm and inviting.......no struggling to get into one of her books. Just reading about Louisa's family dynamic, leaves you completely breathless. The twins may put in an appearance at the end of the book, but for me Aria is the star of the show! (Mind you, look out when she reaches her teens!😂) Many thanks to Susan Buchanan and the publisher for the chance to read this truly heartwarming book.
This is my first book by this author and won't be my last. This one can be read as a standalone, but is part of Susan's Just One Day series. This resonated with me so much, lists, lists and more lists, I'm also an older mum and much like Louisa did wonder how I was going to do it all over again. Overall a charming read. I can't wait to read the other books in this series.
Such a wonderful ending to the series and can understand the authors loss at the end. But this would make such a fantastic ongoing series - what about the twins, what about coming home, what about living near her husbands parents? The juggling of teenagers and babies. And a business. It would be a fabulous series to keep going. PLEASE!! SUASAN BUCHANAN 😁XXX

A great conclusion to our year following the trials, tribulations and joys of Louisa and her ever expanding family and extended family. Many ends firmly tied up but a few left for us to draw our own conclusions. Thanks you Susan for the ARC.
I've loved all the books in the series so far and this is the best yet, a story of family life, the ups and downs, good bit's and the bad. The characters all feel like family now and it's been such fun reading about them growing up.
I have adored this series of books. This last one, Autumn 🍁,was no exception. Iv loved following the hectic life of Lou and her wonderful family. It's had me laughing out loud, shedding tears and being on the edge of my seat. I'm going to miss them now . A brilliant read , enjoy.
The final part of our adventures with Louisa and her family and friends. So much going on in her life, it was great to catch up with her and see what was happening as the year progresses onwards. It’s really like reading a soap opera, lots of unexpected happenings and surprises kept me reading avidly. It’s a clever idea for a book series and I completely warmed to the characters that we met throughout the books. I’m going to miss my time with Louisa and her lists that often made me chuckle!
