MONTGOMERY DISCUSSES WALK-INS, AND MANY OTHER TOPICS

Ruth Shick Montgomery (1912-2001) was a journalist and syndicated columnist in Washington, DC., who later became a psychic who wrote a number of metaphysical books (sometimes through ‘automatic writing’), and claimed that she could communicate with medium Arthur Ford after his death.

She wrote in the Foreword to this 1982 book, “If you have not already met a Walk-in, you soon will. They are everywhere, and, according to the Guides, are harbingers of a new order that will bring peace on earth in the twenty-first century. While writing ‘Strangers Among Us,’ which introduced the subject of Walk-ins, I felt remarkably privileged to know three of these seemingly unique individuals who had entered adult bodies in order to serve humanity. Nowadays, I seem to be stumbling into Walk-ins wherever I go. I have spoken with dozens of them, which is scarcely surprising because the Guides say that tens of thousands of them are already in physical being throughout the world. ‘They are New Age disciples,’ they declare, ‘who are returning at an accelerated pace to usher us into the Age of Aquarius when all will be as one, and the biblical prophecy of the millennium will be fulfilled.’” (Pg. 1)

She continues, “The Guides declare that many people who survive clinical death are actually Walk-ins, and because they are coming directly from the highly energized spirit plane they are able to revive and utilize bodies that would otherwise be wasted. They also attest that some who call themselves born-again Christians are in fact different, rather than reformed, souls. But certainly not all of them... they say that former president Jimmy Carter is not a Walk-in… At my lectures I am invariably asked whether Charles (‘Chuck’) Colcon is a Walk-in, because of his startling alternation of character following the Watergate debacle. The Guides insist that he is…” (Pg. 3)

She adds, “they stress that, ‘Walk-ins are not necessarily superior, and certainly not perfected souls. They have their foibles and idiosyncrasies, and should not be condemned because they are less than perfect, for they are still striving toward the perfection that leads to reunion with the Creator. They are, however, filled with a sense of purpose and an urgency to get on with the task of helping mankind and saving planet Earth in these coming decades. They feel that time is short.’” (Pg. 10)

Of the late Egyptian President Anwar Sadat, she comments on his assassination, “Shortly before this despicable event, the Guides told me that Anwar Sadat was a Walk-in, and that the transferal of souls occurred while he was in prison… I have been irresistibly drawn to Egypt for numerous visits during the past thirty-odd years.” (Pg. 103-104)

She recounts, “One of the most tantalizing assertions made by the Guides in ‘Strangers Among Us’ was that Walk-ins would shortly be willing to reveal their true identities. They said that secrecy would no longer be necessary, since Walk-ins were now entering adult bodies at such an increased tempo that people would soon accept their presence with pleasure, realizing that they are enlightened souls who have returned in this rather unorthodox fashion solely to aid mankind during the troublesome decades ahead. Since then I seem to meet them wherever I go.” (Pg. 130)

She says of a man named David Hutton: “The Guides had written: ‘The present David is a fine person who entered the body as an opportunity to aid his fellow man. In his previous lifetime he had failed in an undertaking to form a community with a large group of like-minded people who would all strive toward the goal of perfection; but funds were unavailable, and in a freak accident he was killed. This time he wanted to get on with that work as quickly as possible, since the times were right for community living and cooperation on a grand scale, due to the approaching shift of the earth on its axis.’ … David surprised me by declaring that only two weeks ago he and a friend had begun arrangements to found a New Age Survival Community in the Northwest panhandle region of Idaho… David says that his wife and his parents are unhappy with his alteration from an ambitious and successful young business executive to one whose chief interest lies in philosophical pursuits to aid the earth and all mankind, but he feels he is performing his mission… As is the case with so many Walk-ins, David has now separated from his wife, and has moved to Los Angeles until he can establish his Survival Community.” (Pg. 175-177)

In the final chapter, she wrote, “Prompted by a query from one of my youthful readers, I asked whether beings from outer space worship the same God we do, and the Guides replied: ‘As for God, or the Creative Force that fashioned all things through the Word, there is but one God, with many helpers, so that although Jesus, the son, came to Planet Earth, in various Christ forms other embodiments of the Creator have visited other planes and planets. God is all powerful. He is God.” (Pg. 208)

She continues, “Reverting to our earlier discussion of contact between planetary systems, they continued: ‘As we have said, there is one Creator of the entire universe with many assistants, and through intermediaries such communication is possible. The extraterrestrials are also souls that began as sparks from the Creator, and as such are not so different from earthlings, although atmospheric conditions and geological variations in the planets have fashioned different physical types. We are all one. That is the message and the truth.’” (Pg. 208)

She concludes, “I had intended to close with that thought, but apparently the Guides decided to have the last word on the subject: … ‘Tell those with doubts that Thomas too became a believer when he inserted his fingers in the wounds. Others were able to believe without that physical proof, and for them the glory is greater. We live. We are eternal. We are all wayfarers on our return voyage to the Creator from whence we began. Good sailing!’” (Pg. 209)

An old book. Kept referring to the end of the world happening at the end of the century - i.e. the year 2000. Since we are 17 years past that, one can see all her predictions were silly. Interesting concept about walk-ins. I did google one of the men that she said was creating all these wonderful world changing things, he does have several patents out but none of the things have become common place.

This book was published in 1982 and while the concept of walk-ins that she promotes and the 16+ biographies she presents of actual walk-ins are interesting, there is a credibility problem because her spirit guides predict that WWIII will start in 1986, that Reagan will have only one term as president, and that the earth will shift on its axis before 2000 causing major damage and loss of life. Needless to say, it is now 2022 and I am not aware that any of these things have happened.

A book only relevant to those who have already begun reading about the walk- in phenomenon. Personal stories of those that feel they have experienced this. Written in the 1980's, creates a bit of historical and prophetic view point as well.
