O Livro dos Mediuns -
A companion to his first book, The Spirits' Guide, The Book on Mediums explains how to apply Allan Kardec's principles of his practical science of spiritism in order to become a medium. His aim is to teach interested readers, those who believe in the existence of the spirit world, and people with a strong desire to communicate with the dead how to cultivate their sensitivity to the paranormal. It is a serious undertaking, and Kardec warns his reader to approach the subject with a scholarly mind and pure intentions. For those who are willing, there is a whole new world just waiting to be experienced. French scholar HIPPOLYTE LEON DENIZARD RIVAIL (1804-1869), aka Allan Kardec, was a longtime teacher of mathematics, astronomy, and other scientific disciplines before turning to the paranormal. He founded the Parisian Society of Psychologic Studies, and founded and edited the monthly magazine La Revue Spirite, Journal of Psychologic Studies. He is also the author of The Gospel as Explained by Spirits (1864).

I read this book about a year ago because I wanted some answers related to how to communicate with spirits. All my life I've been living with the "gift" of being a medium/psychic and this book gave me the right answers. It is just about how to treat spirits. I didn't find how to become a medium because as I know you born with the "gift" which makes everything easier but everyone could learn how to invocate a spirit on their own.
I recommend this book to everyone who is interested in this topics.. but I have a warning, it is probably that while you're reading your are going to start to hear, see, even feel spirits because you are going to open your unconscious mind.

Things to remember when reading this book (I call this list a reminder or warning):
1.The Book on Mediums was translated from French to English so the translation might not be as accurate.
2. This book was written in the 19th Century and nearing the end of the Victorian Era. If you're not familiar with Victorian writing or authors like Arnold, Carlyle, or Ruskin you may have to read slowly or reread several times to understand what Kardec is trying to say.
3. Highlight the main points (Can you tell I was an English major?) Victorian writing is dry and never ending. Victorian writers absolutely adored run-ons and fragments. The more semi-colons, colons, and commas the better. So if you can't stand writers that don't get right to the point this book isn't for you. That said it is still full of interesting information. I personally love Victorian Literature because of it's tangents and dry sarcastic humor.
4. Once again keep in mind that this is the 19 Century. Everyone is Christian. This book is filled with the writer's opinions of Christianity and Christan dogma.
5. Allan Kardec thought himself as a scientist. He thought that there was a science to being a Medium and while he did try to describe ghosts and being a medium as a liquid that exists in both the ghost and individual that challenges matter it's not really science. These ideas or laws he writes are more like theories rather than hypotheses. Now in the 21st Century science has vastly improved.
Now with those few warnings out of the way. The Book of Mediums is very interesting because while it is written by a mathematician gone scientist he claims to hate real scientists and atheists. Kardec views are very hypocritical and resemble those of Arnold and Carlyle. Basically you must be perfect, but not too perfect as to insult God. You can be a scientist, but not really because you don't want to cure the living, but find out more about the divinity in the dead. But then, you must not become obsessed with discovering information about ghosts because "spiritualism" is more the advancement of the soul and not to be dissected like cold scientists do.
That kind of nonsense.
The book while full of Christian dogma answers many non-Christian beliefs like auras, reincarnation/past lives, astral traveling/projection, empaths and being clairvoyant. Kardec believes that there are 3 shells that make a person. The useless body, the perispirit and your spirit or soul. Although, he argues that technically it is 2 shells because the perispirit and the soul are linked and the perispirit are liquid. People that have the ability to communicate with the dead also have a liquid in their spirit and once the liquids sync up to each other communication can be made. When people cannot communicate anymore with ghosts it is because they have used up all the liquid and need to rest.
Another issue I have with this book is how remarkably classist it is. While I do believe that there is a hierarchy for ghosts I believe it is more along ability rather than moral goodness and evil. Many times he claims that only the educated and noble elite class can become mediums. He also frowns upon non-christian beliefs yet believes that every Christian should believe in reincarnation.
I liked that he described the many types of mediums that exist and that a true medium is born instead of rather studying to become a medium. I also liked all the ways of communicating with the dead, but given that it is the 21st Century some of the methods in this book cannot be replicated because nobody speaks or behaves in the same way that they did in the 18th Century.

I wouldn't have thought I was going crazy. I had to learn all these concepts on my own. All in all, it was an interesting read once you find the information you're looking for. O começo do livro trata de tipos e classificações que um quadro de resumo pode muito bem substituir.
Mas depois disso, se mostra uma leitura essencial para a doutrina espírita, pois sua leitura permite saber o que se espera de um trabalho mediúnico e, especialmente, quais armadilhas devem ser evitadas.

The Book of Mediums was similar to the The Book of Spirits. It followed the same question and answer format. It contained similar information but this time it was applicable to incarnate humans. While I enjoy Spiritist discourse, and by extension Alan Kardec’s work, there are aspects of it that are better explained by Chico Xavier.

O Livro dos Médiuns é a leitura de cabeceira de todos que possuem dons mediúnicos. Inclusive de muitos espiritualistas. Pois o autor colocou todos os fatos sobre o assunto dentro da obra.
O livro possui duas partes abrangentes, dentro delas muitos títulos e dentro possuem mais subtítulos ainda. :P
A primeira é de Noções Preliminares e comenta sobre a possibilidade de haver espíritos, o sobrenatural, os métodos utilizados para as comunicações e os sistemas, como por exemplo, o charlatanismo que comentam sobre aquelas pessoas que não possuem mediunidade e publicamente mostram o contrário para ganhar dinheiro.
A segunda parte são sobre as Manifestações Espíritas e é altamente profundo e mega explicativo. É abordado sobre as ações dos espíritos sobre a matéria, as manifestações físicas e as famosas mesas girantes, manifestações inteligentes, teoria das manifestações físicas, espontâneas e visuais, bicorporeidade e transfiguração, laboratório do mundo, lugares assombrados, natureza das comunicações, sematologia e tiptologia e pneumatofonia.
Nessa mesma parte também são comentados sobre as diversas categorias de médiuns e sua formação. Os inconvenientes e perigos da mediunidade, as influências morais e do meio, a mediunidade em animais, obsessão, contradições e mistificações, reuniões e sociedades. Por fim, um vocabulário sobre as denominações espíritas.
Quem for ler tem que estar preparado para absorver MUITA informação. Se você quer estudar de fato, é impossível ler corrido.
A tradução que peguei foi bem tranquila quanto a escrita e tentou ao máximo não usar palavras complicadas e ao mesmo tempo não alterar tanto o que estava sendo falado.
Dessa vez as partes que mais me chamaram a atenção foram: A noção da trabalheira que era se comunicar com os espíritos. Hoje em dia é tudo tão mais fácil e de boas. E segundo que o próprio Kardec diz que muitas pessoas se contentam somente a aprender com O Livro dos Espíritos e isso está errado. Não se pode parar jamais.
Hoje em dia existem diversos livros maravilhosos sobre mediunidade. É ótimo ter um livro base sobre o assunto, mais é melhor ainda poder complementar com o que está sendo conhecido e abordado sobre dons mediúnicos nos dias atuais.

Um livro fantástico, essencial para quem tem desejo de conhecer mais afundo sobre mediunidade e médiuns.
O livro possui inúmeras instruções sobre como se deve ocorrer uma mesa mediúnica séria, aborda todos os tipos de mediunidade desmembrando cada uma, dicas de como realizar um trabalho focado no bem e na caridade, como lidar com espíritos levianos e o que fazer nessas situações, entre outros tópicos e temas.
É um livro de Kardec muito mais aprofundado do que os outros, por exemplo, em momento algum ele foge do tema proposto e responde todas as nossas dúvidas e questões sobre o tema discutido.
Estava estudando esse livro há cerca de um pouco mais de 1 ano na Casa Espírita que frequento e cada segunda-feira era um aprendizado novo.
Finalizo esse estudo, com uma nova visão sobre os assuntos estudados e com um conhecimento muito mais amplo.

I was initially interested by this work, but later the author began to make every thought or occurrence the result of spiritual intervention. He appears to forget that the actor has his or her own spirit as well, and that sometimes inclinations originate from this simple internal source, rather than always originating from an external one.

Una lettura affiscinante! Non ricordo come sono arrivata alla ricerca/acquisto di questo volume, ma una volta iniziato non volevo più smettere.
Gli spiriti, le loro presenze, li sento fin da piccolissima. A volte li sento (le voci), raramente (per lo più in sogno) li vedo, spesso li sento che mi mettono una mano sulla spalla e li sento sulla testa.
In questo libro ho trovato tantissime risposte, rassicurazioni, nuove domande e punti su cui devo riflettere. Una curiosità nei punti più oscuri del libro dove si parla degli spiriti che si accaniscono, dell'ossessione, di quelli che se la ridono nel farti paura, mentre li leggevo me ne sono capitate di ogni °A° io poi salto come un gatto al primo rumore sospetto ^^' Una sera tardi io e mio marito ci siamo svegliati perché il babyphone suonava avvertendoci che l'altro babyphone (in camera di nostro figlio) si era spento. Io così -> o_o perché tipo non era mai successo prima. Comunque era solo andata via la corrente. Il giorno dopo si è rotto il frigo :D mentre ero sul letto sono caduti tre libri (sul lato per fortuna non addosso a me) dalla libreria accanto. Mio marito, pur non esponendosi sul suo credo dell'esistenza degli spiriti, mi ha chiesto di smettere di leggere il libro u_u ma ovviamente non lo diceva con serietá.
Devo dire che alcune comunicazioni degli spiriti raccolte in questo volume mi sembravano un po' dette in tono severo o stanco di rispondere sempre alle stesse domande articolate diversamente. Il tono forse mi è sembrato delle volte severo perché è scritto in un'epoca lontana dalla mia e quindi normale le persone parlavano differentemente da adesso. In più il libro fu redatto in francese e io ne ho letta la traduzione italiana. Non ho ben capito perché l'accanimento nel volere convincere tutti nell'esistenza degli spiriti.. o meglio: capisco il perché si voglia che più persone possibili ci credano, ma non capisco l'accanimento (che sa un po' di insicurezza) contro chi invece si fa scherno di questa verità.
Una cosa che cambierei del libro: tenere magari un tono religioso più generale. Da come scrive Kardec sembra che non solo il libro, ma tutto il mondo degli spiriti appartenga solamente a persone di religione cristiana 😬 secondo me questo può essere d'ostacolo a chi è di un'altra religione o magari di nessuna o di una sua tutta personale.

É um livro técnico, mas muito esclarecedor. Me enrolei demais para ler ele e com certeza uma só leitura não é suficiente para apreender todo o conteúdo. De qualquer forma, recomendo a todos os que são estudantes da Doutrina. Aos leigos, não me parece muito adequado, a não ser que seja no intuito mesmo de adentrar ao Espiritismo. Se houver apenas curiosidade sobre mediunidade (o que também é bom, é um primeiro passo para compreender a si mesmo), sugiro livros de autores como Divaldo Franco, Haroldo Dias, palestrar no Youtube (TV Mundo Maior, por exemplo), enfim, há uma infinidade de informações. É bom levar em consideração, durante a leitura, a época em que foi escrito, para alguns conceitos para não soarem tão distantes da nossa realidade.

Para quem tá começando a ler Kardec, o Livro dos Espiritos é muito mais impactante e emocionante.
O Livro dos Mediuns é mais teórico e tem bastante informação prática, que hoje em dia podem ser experienciadas se vc frequenta um Centro Espirita, enquanto que o Livro dos Espiritos tem histórias belissimas e emocionantes.

Esta é uma leitura esclarecedora porém maçante. É preciso dispender bastante foco para entender os detalhes teóricos e se acostumar com o vocabulário utilizado no livro. Várias vezes tive que reler alguns parágrafos porque minha mente começava a flutuar e eu me perdia no texto, principalmente porque algumas partes se tornam bem repetitivas.

Not an easy read by any means. I don’t think the book was edited at all and the translations was terribly done. For such a heavy topic, having so many errors just made it all the harder to read. Good content that taught me a lot, but not one I’ll pick up again in a while.

Me gustó mucho, a pesar de tener más de 150 años es de ágil lectura. Tengo una edición súper vieja y le agregó misticismo ☺️. Me hace un poco de ruido que la mayoría de la información venga de los espíritus mismos pero.. creer l reventar. Lo recomiendo

Mas o livro é escrito no sec. XIX por um homem erudito em França, não se pode esperar outra coisa

Excelente libro, despeja muchas dudas acerca de lo que se debe preguntar en las sesiones espiritistas
