Between You & Me
Kirsty Scott
Paperback
I have known Kirsty as a professional colleague for more than 25 years.
And latterly as a precious friend.
She has always had an acerbic pen which at whim can be both beautiful and mesmerising.
A rare creative talent.
This is not my usual genre of choice, but such is the balance and craft of the writing that I am transported into her created world.
Not my usual world of steel-eyed death and men, but a world of love and the consuming irony of middle class life.
The plot is cohesive, the characters believable, and the humour will make you giggle out loud.
Between You & Me is also a reflection on the importance of friends, especially in times of need.
I came to this book late (first published in 2007) and after 391 pages have already dipped into her next one.
Highly recommended.

I realise this novel is aimed at a female audience, but as a writer I like to read widely.

So, from this male reader’s perspective, I can honestly state that I enjoyed the majority of this book. The plot is cohesive, the characters believable, and I especially liked the humour.

While it’s not the type of novel I’d usually opt for, this did make a pleasant change. As mentioned, it’s good to read widely.

Loved it! A few laugh-out-loud bits. About how important friends are no matter how much time may have passed. Nothing in the world like a friend lending a listening ear, without being judgmental, and being there for you in times of need.

Even by the end of the first chapter, I was already hooked. Great book, well written, good story lines, little to no cliches, and good characters. Highly recommended.

A bit slow at the beginning, but picked up towards the middle. Not sure if I liked the ending or was disappointed with it.

Lovely story, but the ending seemed a bit rushed.

An easy, pleasant read. I thought it finished too abruptly. Spoiler alert... Hamish dies :(
