Have you ever had everything you love snatched from your hands in the blink of an eye? Do you know what it’s like to watch helplessly as those you cherish burn to a crisp? Have you ever heard a mournful cry for street justice and then realized that the only person left to heed the call was you?
Pearl Baines is a straight Harlem stunna. She and her twin sister, Diamond, are chased by some of the most notorious ballers in New York City. But while their father, ex-gangsta Irish Baines, devotes his life to rehabilitating young thugs, his sexy twin daughters fall hard for the glamour and glitter of strip clubs and street life. Unlike Diamond, though, Pearl is able to shake off the trappings of the hood in search of a better future. After graduating at the top of her class, Pearl becomes an FBI agent and plans to get as far away from the grime of Harlem as possible. But fate is cruel and the streets always get their due. On what should have been the happiest night of her life, Pearl’s family perishes in a ball of merciless flames—flames intentionally set on the orders of Mookie Mason, her father’s archenemy and the most ruthless gangsta in Harlem.
Crazed with grief, Pearl becomes unzipped. Hell-bent on retribution, she prepares for battle in New York’s urban jungle. With the help of Menace, an ex-lover who once trampled all over her heart but was deeply loyal to Irish Baines, Pearl puts her FBI training and tactical skills to work in a murderous mission designed to do what her father wasn’t able take down Mookie Mason, and his entire crew, one at a time.

Diamond and Pearl did not have much in common even though they were twins. Diamond wasn’t the best sister. Pearl did she needed to do to make things happen. Pearl didn’t get mad, she got even.
Fraternal twins Diamond and Pearl Baines were never much alike, and any similitude ceased once they both got pregnant at only fourteen years of age. Pearl decided she wanted to make her father proud and poured herself into school work while Diamond refused to pick herself up by her boot straps. Their parents stepped up for both teens equally when it came to raising their seeds, but only Pearl positively took full advantage of it while they encouraged her to excel in her education. Diamond on the other hand decided to excel in more sordid affairs such as schemes, drug use, and stripping while they begged her to stop.
Diamond gets mixed up scheming with the wrong people and when a swindle goes wrong she gets punished severely by king pin Mookie Murdock. Big mistake on his part as her father, reformed gangster turned community activist Irish Baines, doesn't hesitate to find avenues that will legally bring Mookie's corrupt empire to it's knees. Once Mookie gets wind that the feds are on to him because of Irish Baines he orchestrates the horrendous execution of anyone related. FBI agent Pearl Baines is dragged back to the ghetto she fought so hard to escape when her entire family is slain. Her mother, father, sister, niece, and daughter are slaughtered all in one night and Pearl will not rest or attempt to pick up the pieces of her life until their unjust deaths are avenged.
Almost as soon as Pearl sets foot in Harlem to exact revenge, she runs into long time family friend Menace, who is proudly running the rehabilitation outreach program, No Limitz, in which Irish Baines founded. The two have not gotten along in a decade, but it turns out Pearl has no choice but to confide in him. These ex lovers agree to work together and although they argue along the way they have crazy chemistry and sexual tension that is practically tangible. Armed with proficient FBI weaponry, Pearl's sex appeal seems to be the most powerful tool in her arsenal. Seemingly sex crazed, the one thing that got unzipped more than her morals and mental stability her were her pants. Pearl pleasurably sacrificed her body to as many goons as she thought it would take to get the job done, which was a turn off and made me cringe, but kept the classic Noire erotica present. This urban thriller with an FBI insider twist is unique and still highly enjoyable. Any reader is sure to root for Pearl as she seeks revenge with her father's encouraging voice steady in her ear.
Okay....so I liked the plot behind the story and the way the main character moved to accomplish what she needed to...I was definitely happy with the ending because you never know how these books go sometimes. However, I felt like this book was trying to be way too hood if that is a thing...I don't know how many times the word neck p*$$y was going to be used, but it was OVER used. It was supposed to be an erotica but I think it was lacking in that department. Yes there was sex but it was lacking eroticism. Also this book has some content that was very vile, vulgar and brutal...very unexpected in an erotica novel.
Unzipped doesn’t hesitate to hook you from page with 1 a brutally descriptive murder scene reminiscent of scenes from American Gangster, The Sopranos, and Oz. From there, Unzipped works backwards to bring the reader up to speed by introducing the characters who died, their backgrounds, and where they were headed when they met such an untimely death. The rest of the book follows the journey of our protagonist as she seeks revenge for the murders of her family.
I enjoyed this book bc first and foremost it was realistic. I can truly see a man having a family, getting locked up and coming home to his family and trying to rehabilitate his community. This is not the norm but I’ve seen it happen so it’s believable to me. Also, more women stick by the baby daddy in prison than many would like to let on. The man has two daughters. One who wants to be somebody, and who wants to live on the streets. They go down two different paths. The one who lives on the streets steals from a notorious drug dealer and gets dealt with. Her daddy maybe rehabilitated but he not letting folk slight his daughter. So him and the drug dealer get to beefing. Things get real murky as an inside man double crosses both of them leading up to the murder that starts the book off. The daughter that aspires to be somebody goes off to school and joins a career field that will equip her with experience in stealth, tactics, combat and intelligence which comes in handy the second half of the book. I admire the daughter and how she goes about her revenge, however I think there were elements of her plan that weren’t necessary for her to get the job done. 4.2/5

The author was right when said this is an urban erotic and not an urban romance. Because all this girl done did in this book is have sex and got revenge. the only hard read part was the tragic event towards the mother, like I could do with the twin daughters murder but the mama? GOD gon have to give her a spa day in heave or something. Now I thought twin sisters were supposed to be close and loving Pearl's twin Diamond did not love her like she said she did. Because what do you mean you slept with your sister's boyfriend and now yall both teen mothers by him and now yall both got an STD???? My favorite part was Pearl and Menace, it wasn't a romance story but the highlights that we did get with them I cherished. I saw another book by this author is in the library I'm hoping it's the sequel to Pearl and Menace running the program or like a continuation. But if it's not I still read it but I low-key want to throw hands because why isn't there a sequel. Maybe it just me
This is no more erotica than a horror film with boobs in it is a porn. If this were a movie, it would be considered a horror or drama. Sometimes the wording felt like it tried too hard to be ghetto, but I'm a middle-class girl from Kentucky so I could just be that out of touch. The decisions the main character, Pearl, made were usually ridiculous (like having sex with the bad guy that slaughtered her family before killing him even though it was in no way necessary). The author didn't do much research either. Apparently there is no such thing as forensics or detective work or else Pearl clearly wouldn't have had a happy ending. I don't know how this book got so many high stars. It obviously reaches a certain crowd, but that only tells me there are a whole lot of people out there that sorely need an education and better books to open their minds.
"Ain't no limits to a soul emboldened and a mind inspired," is a quote that guides a local community organization created by Irish Baines. However, in the grimy streets of Harlem, his presence and protection of young men is not appreciated by local thug, Mookie. Mookie makes a life-altering decision that brings Irish's daughter, Pearl Baines, back to Harlem to seek revenge on those who've wronged her family. The story does not follow a linear structure, instead, it goes back and forth from present day to past, to fill any gaps of information for the reader. Based on the synopsis, I expected the plot to center more around Pearl's revenge than the background that led her to go to New York. Overall, the story had a good progression, though slow at times, and the ending was really sweet.
Pearl was hot as fire. When her entire family was taken from her, there was nothing left to do but get revenge. And revenge she got! They didn't know who's family they were messing with. Pearl didn't grow up in Harlem and not learn anything. Although you do find yourself wanting to yell at her sometimes for her decisions because she was acting naive.
Just when you think you know is going to happen, something else happens. This book keeps you reading to the very end. It doesn't leave you hanging like some books. There is closure to this story. You don't walk away feeling confused and cheated.
This was past amazing. I have been a long fan of Noire. She has been my favorite author because of her skills in creating characters and the world that surrounds them. Her writing skills breathes life into her story and makes every book she writes a page turner. This was my first time reading unzipped. I had no clue what to really expect out of the story. What I ended up getting was definitely an amazing story. I would recommend this book to any fan of Noire.
I loved this book. Love the drive and determination in Pearl! I love how she stayed focus at the task she had on hand! No, not your norm Noire book, but good none the less! A good read, kept me in there from beginning to the end, yes some parts had me cringing but I still held on knowing its just a book! If your on the fence, read it you won't be bored, upset, nor will you regret it!
REALLY wasted my money on this book😢😢this book wasn't realistic at all. I notice that this writer has some time of thing with writing about torturing people and i don't like that.. Ion think I'll be buying any more books by this author. I read the other book Hood and they are very similar
This book was good. Pearl was on a mission to take down her families killers and executed her plans brilliantly. She used what had to get the results she wanted. Honestly I wish there was a sequel to this but at this point, really there's no need. Excellent book, I truly recommend!
Family is killed by a rival gang and the prodigal daughter returns to deal out the vengeance her father promised. She sexes her way through the whole gang to kill them all.
This was an absolutely FANTASTIC read! I could hardly bare to put it down! If you love tales of retribution especially those from a woman scorned, this book is for you!!
I enjoyed this book. It was sad and yet it was inspirational. It's sad that the entire family had to die, leaving Pearl alone but she had Menus. It was a great story on endless love for family. Pearls payback was a beast! Very well done.
I am all for a deserving revenge. The book had a typical story. It was brutal to read some parts. I thought that Pearl should have been a little smarter if she was an FBI agent. She should have been more aware of her surroundings and a better profiler when she was completing her killings, she got caught up twice for not watching her surroundings and catching on to the red flags. She should have known better to under estimate her opponent. The first one through me off a little, she threw up twice after been drugged, that should have gotten some of the drugs out of her system. I liked the ending, I love happy endings so it was good to see her reconnect with her love and can have some peace after this tragedy.
I've read several books by the author and with the fast pace, violence, and sex I can't put the books down. What is different about this book though is the heroine of the book never meets a degrading, violent fate that seems to happen in several of the other books. I was even holding my breath, bracing for that scene. So glad that it didn't happen in this book and she got to deliver her revenge with a righteous viciousness. And the sex. Can't describe you just have to read for yourself.
Diamond and Pearl...twins that are completely opposite, it makes you wonder if they have different Dad's. This book is all about trying to do the right thing but wrong finding you anyway. And revenge being the cure for what ails you. All I can say is, you mess with a girls family, you will get burned.
One question though, how does a rookie FBI agent become a straight hood, super assassin overnight? Hmmm.....that's a good question.
Definately an urban book. The best part of the book for me was the way the sista handled her bizness. All the extra-curricular activities before, during and after were something indeed. I'm not sure how I came to be in possession of this book, but I'm glad I had the opportunity to read it. Good read.
unzipped was a very interesting book i liked it because it kept you guessing and there where a lot of emotional rollercosters throughout the book but i liked it a lot and i think the author Noire did his thing when he put this book together.
