Tulip struggles to take part in the competition since her parents hate the show but she does and you see her growing up through the book. She gets some life lessons through the show.
Well, ending had a little twist and it took me by surprise. But it was a good ending for everybody involved. It was a nice and sweet read.

Voicemates is a book by author and blogger Anamika Mishra. It was published on 5th February 2016 by Jaico Publishing House. The cover page of the book is very attractive having a beautiful picture which resembles the story. The colors black, pink and white are very nicely used making the book catchy to the eyes.
Voicemates is a story revolving around Tulip Hill and Sam. Tulip Hill, who is rich, intelligent, disciplined and beautiful daughter of her parents, who want her to pursue B.Tech. While on the other side is Sam who is an orphan, witty and easy going boy. Both Sam and Tulip share the love for music and want to win the reality show Voicemates. The book is set in the beautiful state of Goa.
Voicemates is a very soulful journey revolving around music. Both the characters love music and want to do something in the music field. The plot of the book is very engaging and fast paced. The narration is in third person. Both the characters are portrayed very beautifully. The events in the story are very well described and the style of writing is very simple. The display of emotions is marvelous. At various points author has mentioned lyrics of English songs which is giving the readers a visual impact. The book has elements of love, trust and friendship.
Overall, a light, fast paced and an intriguing read. It can be easily finished in one sitting. Recommended for those who want a quick read.
*I received a copy of the book from the author in exchange of an honest and an unbiased review.
VoiceMates is the story of Tulip and Sam. They are born to two different backgrounds but with the same drive and aspirations. Tulip has always wanted to make her career in the music industry, but her very strict parents have different plans for her. She never had it in her to go against her parents and choose a somewhat unorthodox career path for herself. That is until she meets Sam, who convinces her to participate in the reality show called VoiceMates. What does Tulip’s future have in store for her? What will her experiences teach her? Will she be able to convince her parents of her talent and ambition?
Tulip is a sweet and innocent girl who often comes across this naïve person. But her passion for music is the one thing that shines through the book and you cannot help but cheer her and wish her loads of success. Sam on the other hand has a completely different personality from Tulip. I really did not get the feel of his character much. Sam’s character acted as a conducive agent in the book and was thus important, I wish that the author had fleshed out his character in a bit different manner that would help us understand and connect with him. The plot however surprised me. I was expecting a simple coming of age story with a bit of romance in it. But the author has plotted her book well so as to offer more to her readers. From the societal pressure to the pressure of reality tv; from choosing between two very different roads to experiencing a lot of firsts – the plot covers a lot of things. The message of ‘you win some – you lose some’ shines through and I also particularly liked the message of hope in the book.
Anamika Mishra has done a very good job of narrating the story in a way that intrigues the readers. The story does invite you in from the beginning. The reality show setting in the backdrop adds to the entertainment factor. The pace has been set perfectly. The language is simple and engaging. All in all, this book is made for a light and fun read for a lazy afternoon.
If you liked to watch reality show or would like to participate in these types of shows, then this novel is for you. From last 7-8 years in India reality shows like Indian Idol, Voice of India etc grabs the biggest TRP’s, so to be famous and hardcore lover of music and singing, they dream to win this type of shows. Also we have got good singers from these types of reality shows. Now about this novel, this is the story of Tulip Hill and Sam, Tulip comes from rich and somewhat orthodox family. Tulip wants to be a singer and she is hardcore music lover, her dream is to win the famous reality show “Voicemate” which is going to organize in her hometown Goa. On the other hand Sam is an orphan, he sings and play guitar for the living. Sam and Tulip meets in an odd situation and Sam convince Tulip to participate in reality show Voicemate. I thought Sam’s character is not properly brought to the readers, how he knows more English songs, how he learns about lyrics even though he has not taken any formal training in music. Anyways, there are pros and cons to every book but to be frank, I really liked the book, the cover of the book is excellent, and the writing style of the author is simple and easy to read. Also the flow of the novel is fast, can be completed in one sitting. Love story of Tulip and Sam is properly upheld thoroughly. This book is a good message for today’s youngsters, it shows what actually reality shows means for them, these shows are a way of hope for youngsters to pursue their passion. Voicemates is an inspirational story, read the book to know the rollercoaster ride of Tulip and Sam.
You can savour the beauty, rhythm, construction like a painting where the music continues, with emotional dialogues and constant descriptions amidst the ordinary, the usual everything, including dialogue, but there is pure emotion without any failure, and no loss of tone.

Voicemates looked like a really cute and sweet read and that is one of the reasons I wanted to read it. Plus I had the pleasure of meeting the author, Anamika Mishra, in person and I have to say that she is very sweet and down to earth as a person. I think anyone who enjoys reading a light read which is Indian fiction would enjoy reading VoiceMates.
VoiceMates is the story of Tulip. Tulip was a really sweet heroine. She was so innocent and naive and it was a nice change reading about such a character. Tulip has a passion for music but she is too scared of her parents and society in general to go ahead and do anything with her beautiful voice. That is until she meets Sam.
Sam is the one who encourages Tulip to take part in the VoiceMates competition. I didn't like Sam very much as I thought that his mood swings were really weird. He didn't really give reasons for his behaviour and I found him a bit irritating. But more than Sam the book is Tulip's journey towards discovering herself and gaining confidence in herself.
The entire book takes us through the reality show which is VoiceMates. I have seen a few singing shows on TV so it was easy for me to imagine what it would be like for Tulip and Sam and the entire cast and crew of VoiceMates. It was an emotional ride with the drama and the ups and downs.
Surprisingly, for me, the ending was the best part even though it is not what you would have expected. I loved the little twist we got and how the book ended with hope. Life is not full of roses and Tulip learns that by the end and she still believes that she'll be okay by the end of it. I think that's what was important and what mattered the most. VoiceMates was a sweet read for me.
*Note: A copy of this book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. We thank them.
A reader-bound journey of dreams, passion, life and inspiration. The simple way with which Anamika Mishra explains how to follow your dreams even with hurdles of life is extraordinary. She portrays Tulip as a passionate girl who is ready to give up anything just to seek her dream and a determined Sam who can overcome any hurdle that lies in his way of achieving his goal. How these two journey through life and follow their dreams is what VoiceMates - A Novel inspires in people. A must-read to get going in achieving your dreams, no matter how big or small they are. Anamika has kept the reader's best interests in mind and till the end, the reader is glued to the storyline. Great Job Anamika Mishra
Just completed the novel “Voice Mates” by Anamika Mishra and straight away writing the review. Because I am extremely impressed with the novel and could not restrict myself from writing a review about the novel. In one word, It’s an excellent read.
If you love the singing reality shows, this book is a wonderful read. Even if you don’t love singing or music, still you will love this novel. Because it has an excellent, cute love story.
These days Bloggers are highly talented. I personally feel, a novel written by bloggers have more creative and interesting stuffs then the novels written by the top selling authors. The Bloggers cum authors write only want is needed. They don’t write for the sake of extending a normal story to 300 pages or more. The novel Voice mates is an excellent example to it.
I just finished reading VoiceMates and couldn't stop myself from coming here and rating the book. I always wanted to become a singer and music is my life. After reading this novel, I am really feeling inspired and I am surely going to take that '1 risk' to pursue one's passion which author Anamika Mishra talks about in the novel. It was an amazing read and I would recommend everyone to read it. Totally loved it. Can't wait for new novel by Anamika Mishra. Good luck to the author. May all her dreams come true.
This is not just another love story but it is really an inspiring and different story that keeps readers hooked from start to end. Parents and elders, often think that reality shows are waste of time, but actually reality shows are that 1 chance for dreamers which can change their life. I totally loved it. It motivated me to pursue my passion of painting. I don't know what is going to happen in the future, but I am surely going to take that '1 chance' and who knows... it might change my life as well!
P.s: I sighed up on goodreads especially to write review of this book. I love you Anamika Ma'am!
Glad to know that our Indian authors are picking up subjects that have not been used before. I was really curious to read this book as it's India's first novel written on International duet singing reality show. And it was truly a treat to read this book. A must read for! It is a motivational dose that everyone needs. Go for it.
My rating is actually somewhere between 3.5 to 4. Giving it a 4 as encouragement for the author. Since I have read both books by her (Too Hard to Handle and Voicemates) and she's improved as an author
Awesome book. Really inspiring and fresh plot. I totally loved the climax. It's a surprise and really unexpected. And the message given by author is too good. I loved it. Must read for all people.

They both meet each other one fine day and there on starts their journey in the famous international singing show Voice Mates. The story talks about Tulip, Sam and their journey as Voice Mates. Review: Tulip Hill is a typical youth stuck in the rat race of academics and study pressures. A very brilliant student as she has always been but there is one thing that attracts tulip more than her academics that is music. Tulip has forever been an ardent fan of the show Voice Mates. Even though her parents did not like her fascination towards the show but Tulip always admired it. She would usually go to places away from her home and indulge in her hobby of singing and playing for small children and the children also enjoyed Tulip’s performances thoroughly. One fine day while playing for her little audiences Tulip get stuck and is then accompanied by Sam. Their conversation thereon makes them decide to participate in their favorite music show together. Throughout this journey in Voice Mates Sam has always been a big support to Tulip but now it is time for them to go on and stay with the show crew for the show ahead. What do they do ahead? Do Tulips parents get to know about her participation? Will they now continue in the show? Answers to all these questions are beautifully in the story. It is very well written. The mesmerizing experiences of Tulip and Sam are very well written. Their struggles and their journey is very well described by the writer. The story keeps the reader engaged right till the end of the story. The story seems rather common but in reality has a very beautiful and unpredictable ending. The language is simple. Suitable for anyone who is looking for a light and interesting read. Ratings : 4/5
Tulip always dreamt of taking part in Voicemates, a reality duet singing show which gave the winners a chance to travel to US, a huge sum as prize amount and a singing contract. Her parents however had other dreams for their only child — that Tulip studies to become an engineer. Tulip often sneaked out from her coaching classes without her parents knowledge, to reach the old fort and sing for the kids who gathered there.
Voicemates auditions are finally happening this year in Goa, Tulip’s hometown and incidentally she bumps into Sam another aspiring singer who otherwise sings at a restro bar for livelihood. While participating and winning the reality show is a distant dream for Tulip given her parents aversion towards such shows, it is a golden opportunity for Sam. Will Tulip be able to convince her parents and will she able to overcome her own insecurities, will she find her true voicemate in Sam forms the rest of the story.
This is a sweet feel good story of coming-of-age journey of Tulip from being a naive, young aspiring singer to a person who is confident about what she wants from life and making her own decisions. The story has a beautiful graph for Tulip’s character growing effortlessly. Her transition is very organic and interesting. There arent many characters as the book concentrates majorly on Sam and Tulip and their journey in Voicemates show from one round to another.
While the story isn’t new and the few twists are cliched, the fresh treatment and the relatibility to Tulip and Sam and other supporting characters makes the book a good read. Pick this one to read a beautiful, youthful story of friendship and dreams. If you are a music lover or singer yourself, this is even more an enjoyable read.
#description This story is about a girl named Tulip Hill, and her passion for music. She hails from a rich family, and her parents are keen on her pursuing B.Tech and getting a good job. But, she has a different plan altogether. She is passionate about singing and wants to pursue her career in the same. One day when she was on her usual visit to the fort, to sing, she meets a guy named Sam, who asks her to be his partner in an international music competition called 'Voice Mates', auditions for which are being conducted in Goa for the first time. Sam is also as passionate about music as Tulip is, and he wanted to earn the cash prize given to the winner of the show. Though Tulip was nervous at first about lying to her parents, she took a chance and skipped her coaching class, to give auditions with Sam. Whether Tulip and Sam get selected in the Auditions and participate further in the show, and whether she would keep lying to her parents about the show, forms the rest of the story. . . #myreview 🌟This book has a fresh storyline with an unpredictable ending which took me by surprise. 🌟The references to different songs shows the author's research on the music aspect. 🌟The writing is very straightforward, and I could imagine every scene in front of my eyes. 🌟I feel than more depth could have been given to the characters, so that we could understand them in a greater detail. 🌟The story mostly talks about Tulip and Sam. There could have been more information about the other characters as well. Few things were left unsaid, like, a character named Seema, who was referenced frequently in a couple of chapters, and later forgotten completely. 🌟All the more this book is a crisp and entertaining read.
Tulip is the daughter of a rich businessman. She has every luxury she could ask for. But what she lack is freedom and empathy from her parents. She wanted to participate in VoiceMates singing competition and go to USA and pursue music further. But for her parents academics is everything. Sam is an orphan. He earns money by singing in clubs and in parks. He wanted to win prize money of VoiceMates so he can have a secured future.
One day they met each other and they know that they have found their VoiceMates. But will Tulip go against her parents and participate? Will they win? What happens when two person with different ambition participate together? Does opposite attract theory will once again come true?
Review- Tulip's character was more relatable. Parents often think that career in academics secure your future but it is not necessary in every case. But the solution of it was very simple and something which every individual should try.
The plot of the story was not that unique but yes the narration and language was good and easy to read.
There were enough twist and turns to keep the story going. It does not get dull at all.
I thought I know the ending of the book which I was partially right but yup there is a twist at the end which I liked.
The genre of the book is romance but still it was not your totally mushy and cheesy kind of romance. There is a subtle romance along with passion of music.
There are many Hollywood songs referred in the book. So if you want to understand it better, listen to the mentioned songs once.
Overall it is a good book. If the author comes with a different plot and genre I would love to read it.
If you like to watch reality shows that fulfill the dreams of many aspirants and are a ray of hope for many passionate people, you will find this novel interesting. Indian reality shows like Indian Idol, etc have given us some really good singers too. I have seen so many reality shows on TV but I have hardly read a book written on reality show journey and its experience.
The cover of this book is excellent. I would like to congratulate Anamika for writing such a brilliant novel. The twists and turns in the story gave me thrills and chills.
Voicemates gives an insight of how reality shows are executed. Then, the dark side of reality shows; what a girl feels when she wants to be something else but her parents wants her to study, the fear of taking risk, the first taste of success and then the failure, lots of emotions in one novel.
If you have a dream and passion for a thing, don't ponder and sit, stand up and take every step to achieve that goal. That's what the novel propagates. Dreams are what make us. So dream big, dream high.
VoiceMates by Anamika Mishra is the story of young aspiring singers struggling with their first successes but also with the first disappointments, the first obstacles and the music thus becomes a metaphor for love and life itself with every little achievement requires commitment, hard work and determination. Not only for dreams and passion, but this story also teaches about family bonding and love relationships.

Reality shows have become a rage among the present generation to showcase their talents. Voicemates is the story of one such youngster. Tulip is a teenage girl who detests going to her engineering coaching classes. Instead her heart lies in singing and dreams of winning the reality show “Voicemates”. Unforeseen coincidences allow her dream of participating in the show come true. What are those coincidences? Will she win the show? In her quest for winning the show she is accompanied by an able partner who she eventually falls in love with. Will her live reach the pinnacle of marriage? Grab the book!
Voicemates has a beautiful cover and title which are in tune with the story of the book. The plot is good and the narration is effective. The author relies more on events than on narration. Most of the prose is in third person and centred on Tulip.
There is nothing much against the book. Though the plot is predictable the author has tried to bring in a new plot for a love story, pushing the book out of the love story genre. However, there are instances where the narration can be rushed through without much attention.
Overall, a good one time read; one to taste and swallow.
Name- Voicemates Written By- Anamika Mishra Published by- Jaico Publishing House Pages- 200 Ratings- 4.2🌟 Storyline- Tulip, a serious, intelligent and obedient girl harbours a dream of her own. A dream to become a singer. Her parents wants her to study in a well reputed college. But opportunity comes in the form of a music competition. She meets Sam there. Sam, a complete opposite to everything Tulip is. Soon they start this journey together. Will it end in a way Tulip wants or it would end in a way she never even imagined? Review- ●A refreshing storyline with an unpredictable ending. ●The issue of dreams and the baggage it comes with was the best part of the book. ●Though, unpredictable the twist and the climax worked definitely in the book's favour. Personal Views- I personally loved the book because O could connect well with Tulip's situation. The thoughts she harboured about Sam were most natural and anyone in her place would have done the same. The most striking part of this book is that the story is extremely realistic.
Tulip Hill has a liking for Singing. She is very fond of a Music reality show 'VoiceMates'. Her dream is to become a singer one day. But Tulip knows that it wont be possible because of her strict conservative parents. Her parents did not like Tulip's love for singing. They found the music reality show stupid. But when Sam enters Tulip's life, her dreams of singing start coming true. Sam also shares the same love for music as Tulip.
#bookreview The title is so apt for the story. The story is set in Goa. Its a sweet, short and a qucik read. Its simple and beautifully written. The pace is good and i completed it in a day. It's a beautiful story of 2 strangers who bonded over Music. Its a light refreshing read. Anyone can pick this up.
I hated the starting. It was all predictable since beginning however the ending was something which I totally liked. The author did a good research before writing this book which I totally appreciate. In my opinion there are few logical loopholes in the story too, like which billionaire would force his only child to pursue engineering to get a good job? Really, Billionaires do that? Do their children look for jobs? The female protagonist's father do that.
The story is about a rich girl named Tulip and a poor guy named Sam. They both are passionate about music and goes through this competition named "Voicemates".
This book was absolutely insufferable! The ungodly amount of exclamation marks drove me crazy! Does the author even know what is the purpose of an exclamation mark?! What do you mean the character said smth sadly but even then the author added an exclamation?! (!!)
“I don't feel good!" She said, sadly.
How did this book even pass through an editor? Or maybe, it never had one which would explain why this book was a hot garbage. The story has the most basic plot ever with an even worse “plot-twist” if you can even call it that. I read the book only because I had borrowed it from my college library. What a waste of time.
Wonderful inspiring romance this book is! A complete different plot with lots of twists. I felt like I am watching a reality show. And yes, the climax was too good. I love Tulip! I love VoiceMates!
